If he can be a Parise type clone that'd be awesome
- Nighthawk

He loves doing the curl hook move when entering the offensive zone to find teammates and create space, Parise plays a more direct style and has more of a scorer's mentality. Both play with the same comletiveness/fire though(without being dirty/agitating).

Yes i agree but then I try to trade down.
- Nighthawk

Also a good option depending on how far and for what. I would love to trade down and still draft a Necas or similarly rated prospect.

I'm a little concerned about this new Goldobin kid already being put in the lineup for tomorrow night's game. If he doesn't score a hat trick and get inducted into the HHOF won't he be considered a bust? That's a lot of pressure on the young man.

If Liljegren falls to 4th or 5th, you have to take him imo
- Nucker101

Gladly. The team has a few d prospects, for sure. But has never, ever had an elite #1. Need to take the BPA in every draft for the next few years, hopefully we have a couple more top5 or top10 picks in the next few years. As many have posted, there are going to be duds. There are also going to be guys that don't pan out as well as we hoped. Juolevi and Liljgren would give us a very good chance of having that true #1 we've always needed, having them both turn into studs would be a great problem to have. I've really enjoyed the Nashville model and what Poile has done there drafting not 1, but 2 legitimate #1 guys. If that franchise ever spent to the cap, they'd probably already won a few cups.

Utica will be very fun to follow in next 1-3yrs.
All these prospects & future picks gonna be good times.
Adding OJ & Brisebois with JV there is a big boost.
D & power forwards taking longer to develop & adding the scoring wingers we had & just got will time out nicely as a group in the AHL. Any bonuses they r promoted on merit to the Canucks is an omen we all can look forward to. This draft alone will be a blast & Incannot wait to see our next top prospect we pick.

Its entirely possible. I can see 3-4 players after the top 5 that r good picks.
Hinges upon any other trades beforehand or simply asset management.
I like as many options as possible & live for trades especially huge ones πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚
I'm still on about getting a Duchene if JB can manage an offer we can live with.
If Sakic wants to stick to 3-4 major pieces r needed then my bubble bursts😜
So without a clue how much Sakic moves off his stance or what other teams can offer I'll suggest my own...

Tanev/Brisebois/Markstrom/3rd for Duchene/2nd

Now thats only my opening shot across the bow....

I'd be more pissed if Willie plays him with Gaunce and Skille

I'm presuming the last 20 games will be auditioning & experimentation.
WD will still enforce his will on how he wants them to play but be more accepting to the ups n downs that will happen. He's gotta loosen up though.
Much could depend on how n what he does while he seeks a new contract.

I'm 100% for signing vets to 1-2 year deals, let them "mentor" and then flip them to a contender for a pick
- Nucker101

You have no concept of how intangibles work. Did you play or coach sports at a high level? Probably not. Fancy stats have limits to value. Signing an outsider to a deal like that would be a permiter player. He isn't going to be much of a mentor. Or someone to look to for guidance.

If he gets a shot on net he'd be declared Canucks best new prospect.

I've played & coached on high levels in some of my sports.
As a player results were high & as a coach it was about how to build & operate.
As a group we focussed on a team identity & we all bought in together.
From the stars down to the last roster player all were under the same rules.
NO double standards nor special treatment was given to any of us.
As a player or a coach we all knew what was laid out in front of us.
Our choice was buy into it or not. Short n sweet.

WD is stil going to want to win games so I don't blame him for doing whatever he thinks will help them win now...unless he's been assured job security.

Why? teams do this all the time. Shane Doan playing for half a year here and getting flipped at TDL would have the type of effect he's talking about. Same with Marleau, Jagr or Sharp. Depends on the player really. The examples I've mentioned are guys who have had very respectable careers, older but certainly capable of mentoring. Part of mentoring is you want different flavours. Sedins can teach them about being canucks, other guys can help them become pros. Having both is good.

No doubt he will coach to win. If smart he will won't be totally rigid.
IMO he needs to prove he is the coach thats needed going forward.
The roster reshuffling will usher in a new opportunity & how he handles it will be up to him if rehired or not. The 1st 4-5 games will indicate to me what his 1st impression is on me. After that i'll be much more critical & scrutinizing of him.

Agreed.

Wouldn't be surprised if he basically tries to win games 2-1 if he feels like his job is on the line. Which means he'll be hard pressed to trust a Goldobin in the 3rd period of a one goal game.

Nice teamwork. Sounds like a good heart and soul dedicated group. When you are paid to play though, the young guys coming in, who got talent, don't listen to the older guys unless they are part of the leadership. A new temprorary vet aqusition gets respect if they produce and lay their body on the line. But they don't get the door opened for mentoring.

Mentoring is about teaching how to be a pro.
Respectable careers r irrelevant to fawn all over.
It does depend on the player i agree.
Mentoring is seeing real obvious improvements on other players.
Great players make other players around them better.
Mentors pass on the savvy stuff & keep youngins grounded.
Character & the work ethic begins it all.

Or set out to win 2-1 til players show they provide more offense.
An open mind on the fly is best. React is to follow. Let the game dictate.

Its all about the old saying 'its the crest upfront not the name on the back'
The older guys been to a few rodeos & the young guys pick their brains.
Hunger to be a student of the game anyone can choose to do.
Ignore that & only talent is left. A recipe for failure or busting out.

Trading for someone of value is a lot different concept. I get that. You are right there. But this post was following Nuckers suggestion that you can find plenty of UFA vets to sign for mentoring. Then flip them away on a trade. That type of player is different from the class you mentioned.

Which is exactly what I said.

Respectable careers are not irrelevant. If you're a young guy and a potential future HOFer like the guys I mentioned get traded to your team, they can learn a lot. The fact the guys ave done what they want to do, like 10 seasons of 20 goals (doan, Marleau, Jagr) Won multiple cups (Sharp, Jagr), mean something to young pros.

Personally, I don't think it's the greatest idea to have the Sedin's be these guys only mentors. I'd like some guys that have won, call me crazy.

A $2m offer would lose & EG would win his arbitration.
Low balling is not the way to go.

Isn't Gudbranson an UFA after next yr? If so, signing him to a 1yr deal wouldn't work.

Respectable & potential HOFer is a wide gap πŸ˜‚πŸ‘
Hart Trophy winners don't make good mentors? C'mon πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

I mentioned 4 specific examples. All of which have had respectable careers. Only 1 is a guaranteed HOFer. All 4 would be great mentors IMO. I love he Sedin's as mentors, I said I dont think they should be the only mentors.
