Grenier/Rendulic/LaBate/McEneny sent down to the minors, was kind of hoping to give Grenier a shot to finish the year with the canucks
- phyllee

Did they paper Stecher or Gaunce?

He's an RFA though. His only real option for leverage is an offersheet, and if another team is willing to do that then you let him walk and take the picks.

He's also approaching the wrong side of 30, so he might not pull it together much resembling his Boston years. That 2nd year in Boston might be the "upside"
- Lindenis#1

That's what I figure. I think he'll be good for about 40-55 points at his best. Point is we really don't know right now and can't condemn him for a slow starting year

Leverage = marketplace
He will get a fair contract prolly @5/4.5m is my guess

Here's the way I see it.

He played 30 games and struggled for us, although was obviously injured, he also was a highly touted 3rd overall pick and by anyone expectations has not lived up to his draft position.

Knowing this and him being a RFA, how could anyone defend signing him to longer term deal?

The only reason to lock him up would be if he had come out and played amazing for us and the team was worried about having to pay more down the road.

Worst case scenario if they sign him to a show me deal is that he turns out to be an amazing player and shows he deserves a big contract.

Canucks might want to find him two linemates that play that style if he is sticking around
- VANTEL

Playmaking C post Sedins is needed. Neither Bo or Sutter fit that mold.
Up to another prospect or pick to come along & provide that.

Judge him on his time in Florida when he was healthy and comfortable with the system. We need his leadership and size.

Sent down or papered? Doesn't really matter I guess but today is the cut off for assigning players to the AHL so they can play in the Calder Cup playoffs.

1st year in Dallas 19 points.
2nd year 31 points
Years 3-7 63 or more points per season.

1st year in Boston 37 points
2nd year 47 points
3rd year 63.

It surprises me more how many people didn't expect a slow start from him. I didn't think he'd produce as little as he has, but I wasn't expecting 50 points from him

- NorthNuck

Too many ppl bought into him & the Sedins would be magic.
He prolly thought the same. This year is not important for success only whats next is.

Benning mentioned in the press conference today he papered Gaunce, nothing on Stecher though. Isnt there a rule that if he plays 70 games he is no longer waiver exempt? Could be it

Thinking Grenier gets a real shot at making the team next year.
He has done all he can do in Utica IMO.
Sink or swim time is approaching.

I find this Disney lemming movie quite intriguing. Will there be car chase? Lemmings driving would be funny.

That is in fact the main goal of this draft. To pick a top 6 playmaking Centreman

Bo does know how to pass, the guy shooting the puck just doesn't know how to.

He wasn't much good in Florida unless he was on Brian Campbell's side. Just like Garrison looked great next to Campbell. And Ekblad's best games were next to Campbell.

Maybe the Canucks should bring in Brian Campbell if thats what they want.

No doubt about it, but I think for the most part he was a 3rd pairing guy there and should be paid like one and not [email protected] or whatever is being bandied about.

If he comes out next season and plays like Mitchell did here when he first came over or can even be as good as Juice was in his last couple of years here, I can understand paying for that grit and leadership.

I have no concerns about his ability to play physical and be a really good guy in the room, I do however have doubts about him being able to anchor a line with young players and be on the ice for 18+ a night.

There are so many different stipulations on waiver rules depending on the contract. I was under the impression that any first or second year player was exempt.

If he pulled that off, go for it. If he just keeps being what he's shown, then its a sunk cost and time to move on if he thinks he's worth more than, or even close to, Tanev

I was looking at it off Capfriendly and he signed as a 22yo, so the threshold is 70 (Gaunce signed pre 20, so has 160 games before he needs it). With 20 games left and 52GP I guess they are expecting him to surpass it? Or they just dont think Stecher has much to gain from AHL playoffs... I could see the latter being the reason

For Stecher you are correct because he is 22.

Once he plays 18 more games he is waiver eligible.
