Agreed.

Horvat, Sven, Tryamkin and Stetcher impress us as fans, due to the time and space they are granted from the Vets like the Sedins, Tanev, Edler (and to an extent Burr and Hansen).

They won't necessarily be able to produce in the same way when facing stronger competition at their ages/level of experience.

Then fans would be labeling them busts and chastising JB for acquiring them.

- dbot

Oiler fans for years were like "(frank)ing trade Horcoff and Smyth and Staois so that Gagner and Cogliano and Gilbert play all the time!" and then mgmt got rid of those guys and then it went poorly for the young guys. Then it was "trade Hemsky and Gilbert and Gagner so that Hall and Eberle and Schultz can play all the minutes" and mgmt did, and it went poorly.

Then they poop their pants so bad they got McDavid which literally changed everything and threw conventional team construction and development out the window.

Yeah, why would you want a team clearly needing a rebuild to rebuild and stop wasting time and assets during the draft years for McDavid, Eichel and Mathews when you could strive for 8th place?

I remember being cranky about the Gudbranson trade because of the cost and getting shouted down because "This team isn't rebuilding. Deal with it. Rebuild is a bad idea. ON the fly retooling is totally the way to go"

- Lindenis#1

Yes it was clear and that's why some of us are still a bit manic about it.

Great TDL for Canucks.

Plenty of head scratching moves out there and really impressed with what Benning was able to recoup regardless of how Dahlen and Goldobin turn out.

Also we still have Gaunce and Subban

- belcherbd

I'd be shocked if Subban doesn't at least get 3-4 games and a PP chance. I'd rather see him play than them try to work Larsen back into the fold.

Why would anyone want to go to Montreal? Probably get drunk and crash into a tree with hot broads in the car?

Watching some of the JB press conference, says looking to "sign a couple of our young college kids after their seasons end", sounds promising that we could be seeing more than just Boeser join the pro ranks out of college

Isn't it just Boeser and Gaudette? Lockwood can stay in college another year or two and it wouldn't hurt.

I haven't paid much attention to the college FA's this year as its usually much ado about nothing.

Flyers needed centers, VF provides that for them.

that fcking idiot eklund posted the trade incorrectly... that guy had a 4th going both ways... so Hextall actually gets Filpulla, a 4th and a 7th for streit... streit hten gets moved for a 4th... so Yzerman gave up an earlier 4th and a 7th for the cap room of filpulla...

I got a real kick out of Eks trade tracker thing where he kept sourcing himself for deals about two minutes after one of the TSN or SN guys tweeted something.

that's not backhanded it's simply the truth, which some apparently don't like to hear. When they trade or don't sign the twins you'll say they should've gotten ride of them four years ago and I'll call you on it lol.
- LeftCoaster

You forget easy.

First of all I wanted the twins gone 10 years ago not 4 years. I haven't liked this style of cycle and pass to themselves ever. I was never a fan of the perimeter play and definitely never a fan of turn the other cheek.

Since Benning came in there are now five remaining players so he has been changing all along.

Even when he brings in players like Sutter and Gudbrandson he gets raked over the coals.

We brought in Bonino and ran him out of town because he was useless yet he goes to Pitt and almost wins the Conn Smythe.

He was bad here because he played with Sh1t players and a sh1t style. Now Sutter was stuck playing with that same core group and that stale style of play.

Gudbrandson said earlier this year "This is a new system and a confusing style of D"

You were the cheerleader back then about not being able to change the core of the twins and Edler and now can't get rid of them fast enough.

Once the rest of the rust is gone this could be a very decent team in the build.

I'm probably one of his few supporters here this season and I would still really like to see him get an opportunity in the bigs but he definitely still has some big holes in his game. Ideally the Canucks can get some reinforcements to Utica and they can somehow squeak in as I think that would be best for his development.

Those three, but couldnt remember if we had a D prospect in college or not. Either way, it would be nice to be able to have them in training camp next season

You're bordering on Mel Gibson in the Conspiracy Theory
- LeftCoaster

Look, people argue that the tear down wasn't going to happen for a number of reasons. They argue that Benning had his path chosen for him and he is working his way through it. People argue that time and patience is needed while we deal with these contracts. You don't have to agree obviously. This routine where people's opinions are minimized to this nonsense about not agreeing about drafting and building a prospect pool is pathetic. People are not doing that. If you have conviction in your opinion, you shouldn't need to do that.

I find it funny how Edmonton is always uses as the litmus test, the way it has played out the past 10 years there is definitely not the norm. Many teams are able to transition from older guys to youth without the same issues and most team never have the talent afforded to them that Edm accumulated or at least had the opportunity to accumulate.

I get he isn't perfect, but the guy can produce. There are spots for guys like that in the league, even with all their warts.

Its worth a shot to let him try to do his best Sami Salo impression on the PP for a few games this year.

Goof post.
Your in depth knowledge about the oilers I'd slightly troubling however.

Keep Larsen away from the roster for two reason:

A) He sucks.
B) No reason to ensure EDM get a 4th instead of the 5th rounder

Yeah Edmonton was sewered by management unable to identify who was still an NHL player and who wasn't. Not because of their kids.

Once you have someone who knows what they're doing in charge it probably doesn't take more than two seasons. Florida, Toronto, Edmonton with Chiarelli, Treliving in Calgary, etc.

I think it doesn't matter if Markstrom's ready or not, you don't need him to be as good as Miller, as you're only waiting until Demko's ready in 2 or 3 years anyways and even if Markstrom's not a great starter you can sign a cheap backup for him for a year and then bring Demko up.

He's a UFA but still property of the Canucks until July 1st, the expansion draft takes place before the actual draft, and the Golden Knights have a window before the expansion draft to exclusively talk to/sign certain UFAs and RFAs before July 1st. By trading him to LV, you at least get something for him and you don't lose anyone in the draft therefore you don't lose anyone to Vegas that you couldn't protect.

- DariusKnight

That is not how it works. During the window.period, if Vegas decides they want Miller, they have the right to sign him. It would then be deemed as the player selected from Canucks. We would not get a pick, no trade necessary for Vegas.

I would be all over that generally if we didn't have Stecher, Tryamkin, Hutton and perhaps McEneny ahead of him and needing those minutes to develop as well.

Don't get me wrong, I've been trying to point out how impressive his development has been for years but he can wait another year IMO if need be.
