I don't see him going in the expansion draft. Though the Vegas GM did draft him.
- Baxter27

I think the 2.5 price tag lowers the chances he goes, but it isn't a ridiculous number and certainly doesn't prevent him from getting picked

I think all of us who watch the Flyers closely and are not named 2real would say that. Mason is the better goalie, but I think they`ve decided to open the job up for the young guys to take it. Although I don`t expect it, what the hell happens if Neuvy gets taken in the ED??
- Hextall271

Mason probably wants more $... he sees himself as a #1.

Sad to see that the day has come where Jarome Iginla is only worth a 4th.

based on Hextall's track record...he wont create a roster spot for the youngins.

This opens a door for Stolarz, but I would put money on them signing another goalie

I like PEB at that number and term....I mean he's better the the two poopty UFAs he signed last summer. Nuevy got back up $ besides he's starting a family he needs the extra cash.

- landros 2

It means PEB is here for 164 more games, probably overplayed as usual, an integral part of PK. Pencil him in at 4C, no young player to be given a chance. Hakstol would (frank) him if it wasn't unethical, so I don't want to hear that the contract isn't much and they don't have to play him. They will. A lot.

No joke, since he's been in the NHL, he is 310/311 players with at least 1500 minutes, in p/60. Actual face punchers like Stoll and Tootoo and McLeod score more than him. He has 6 (frank)ing points in 62 games this year. It is not an upgrade on our bottom 6. Same old song and (frank)ing dance. Recognize the bottom 6 desperately needs upgrades.......and then just trot out the same poop. And then to give him 2 years and a raise yet. A raise for what?

Yeah. Completely agree that's what happened here. Not a lot of open #1 jobs for him though in the league. I can see him not being traded, ought to be motivated through the end of the season haha

No, he isn't. With this said, I'm feeling like you're flip flopping from Coburn vs Gudas to Coburn for Gudas, the first and the third.
- SuperSchennBros

Nope, I never said Coburn vs Gudas...I said that Gudas fits his 3/4 role better than Coburn as a 1/2...and when you look at the trade, the trade favored the Flyers...you commented that gudas was not/could not be a staple in a well performing D rotation.

so Iginla to LA for a conditional 4th rounder....the conditions being if the Kings don't make playoffs or Iginila doesn't re-sign the pick goes away. so really Colorado could get nothing

That's the only issue I have is that he does block a kid like Laughton.

The expansion draft plays into this though.

I think they believe Stolarz could be ready. But you'll never know until he plays NHL games. If they can move Mason I think you'll see Stoalrz get a good share of games.

Also I wonder now what Mason's psyche could be knowing Neuvirth got a new deal and he'll be an UFA

So would you sign a vet backup to Neuvy at like 1 mil or another potential starter if Stollie doesn't make the team?

thats a little unfair. he has a career .911 save percentage in 224 games. My issue is more that I just don't see him as a workhorse everyday starter which I do think Mason can handle. I just think Mason is the better goalie.
- nastyflyergirl

I agree that Mason is the better goalie but it is not hard to read the tea leaves here. Mason's price tag is too high for the Flyers as they now have doubts about him long term and just want a bridge until one of the prospects is ready. Neuvirth is cheaper. Wont ne surprised to see Mason traded now.

Re PEB: I'm cool with the new deal, he's an effective 4C and PKer. Hopefully he'll have some better wingers to play with next season

Re Neuvirth: This is all about the expansion draft. Don't be surprised if he gets if he gets taken, they won't be exposing anyone else that's much better. If he stays, he battles it out with Stolarz for the top spot next year and if he goes they'll just sign another vet to do the same.

Neuvirth is the worst goalie in the league this year. And got a raise. And 2 years. He can't stay healthy for poop. And he's always been inconsistent. I'm going to be pissed when Mason leaves, if this season was enough to cut ties with him but not Neuvirth apparently. This goes back to Hakstol too I bet. He has always preferred Neuvy over Mason for reasons unknown.

If he didn't knock up Gudas's sister, would he still be here too? Neuvirth is a snake.

PEB walking would have been addition by subtraction for the team.

He sucks, and a piece of me dies every time I have to watch him kill penalties.

Plus, I'm willing to bet that players significantly better than PEB will be signed for much less on July 1st.

Good points. I kinda think they have to trade Mase now. Could you imagine if Neuvy got hurt tomorrow and they needed to go to a less than motivated Mase, he's a pro but not an ideal situation.

Trade him for whatever low pick you can get and call Stollie up.

well kids like Weal, Leier and laughton are either on the flyers or exposed in waivers assuming none are lost in the expansion draft
