They are but I believe the majority of their points are 5v5, it doesn't translate to the PP for some reason. Not a bad thing at all but if you want a good PP you have to have a good PP qb. And there is no argument Shattenkirk is pretty damn good on the PP
- mdw7413

So we're boyle and richards. They were the answer. The problem is the system not the players. 1 player is not going to change our entire PP. When u don't shoot the puck, you aren't going to score. Simple as that. I think Zib being out has hurt our PP, he used to set up in the slot and shoot. Now we have Stepan set up in the slot who either whiffs or passes the puck.

Apparently you don't see the guy wearing 93 passing up shots on the PP or missing the net either.

You pay for #'s like this.

He's got 3 less PP points than Yandle in 50 less games. Also has twice as many goals.

- tomburton99

And in 2-3 years well be having the same problem talking about how we can buy him out just like all the other late 20's players we've signed into their mid 30's. I don't disagree he makes us a better team right now or for the next few years. If we could sign him for 5 years I would do it. But he's going to way 7 years, and I think that's a mistake.

I still don't think he's 100%. Prior to that injury he was a totally different player, no hesitation shooting. I would also try re-uniting Buchnevich Zibanejad and Kreider. They had great chemistry prior to all 3 getting injured.

Remember in preseason Clendening ripping shots from the point. While yes some of it is the forwards its also a a guy on the back end who sees the ice extremely well and can shoot from the point. Boyle was brought in to qb the PP not Richards. Richards was just used there.

So Boyle didn't work out, does that mean you never try to fill that role again? McIlrath didn't work out, should we just never draft another defenseman?

No, I suggested putting Clendening in the slot on the PP and it wasn't really acknowledged one way or the other. I see no downside to it.

This might be an unpopular opinion but that never stopped me before:

I like that Gorton didn't go for it at the deadline. Even with Shattenkirk the Rangers are, at best, the third best team in the conference.

Can they beat the caps in a seven game series? Healthy, I think they can, but can they beat the Pens in a seven game series? Even at their best I am not so sure.

If the Rangers play their cards right they can be serious contender next season. They have a lot of good pieces in place. If they can shed some deadweight, we all know who I am referring to, and continue to upgrade their defense, while not purging the few assets they have in their system, things are looking good for the team beyond this season.

Understand they weren't supposed to be as good as they have been to this point. When the season got underway many projected them to be a team in flux.

Im 100% with you!!! NYR "can" win the cup but the chances are very slim w/ this blueline. Every team knew exactly what NYR was looking for and Gorton was smart not to overpay for the slim chance at victory. The Caps and Pens, not to mention the BLue Jackets seem better equipped this year. Make the necessary moves in the offseason to better the back end, and maybe get another piece up front for the 2018 season. I know it always seems to be us saying "next year", but the way things are shaking out this year, it seems to be the better bet

I get you don't want to pay Shattenkirk its a valid argument. I would say I have some reservations also, but when there really isn't any other option, sometimes you have to go for it. Its when you bring up that other guys were brought in and they failed so we shouldn't try again that I think your point gets a little muddled.imo

I guess I like arguing a point, but I don't like when it devolves into insults and then dumb posts. This is separate of course of good natured insults and ribbing.

Yep. Shipped out a regular defenseman and a top 9 forward and got nothing back. Closer to the bottom.
