I was having some fun. I might not be around here lately but I am keeping up to date with the league, team.

I like Smith and if they retain him beyond this season it is a good trade.

Surprised Pirri wasn't dealt today. Highly doubt he is back next season.

This might be an unpopular opinion but that never stopped me before:

I like that Gorton didn't go for it at the deadline. Even with Shattenkirk the Rangers are, at best, the third best team in the conference.

Can they beat the caps in a seven game series? Healthy, I think they can, but can they beat the Pens in a seven game series? Even at their best I am not so sure.

If the Rangers play their cards right they can be serious contender next season. They have a lot of good pieces in place. If they can shed some deadweight, we all know who I am referring to, and continue to upgrade their defense, while not purging the few assets they have in their system, things are looking good for the team beyond this season.

Understand they weren't supposed to be as good as they have been to this point. When the season got underway many projected them to be a team in flux.

Always respected your opinion Brandon & good to see you back here. I just have that feeling of things turning sour here & I'm usually a glass half full guy. With an older, banged up D core. Top scorers not performing. Not a good gut feeling about this team.

Good to see you again, brother!

I don't disagree. I would have been fine either way, but I also am happy they didn't give up the farm.

Now I think its almost imperative to finish 4th in the division & get the top wildcard & face the Atlantic division winner. Then I like our chances a lot better.

Likewise on the respect factor homey.

I am usually the pessimist but honestly, if they buyout Girardi, trade Klein or he gets selected by Vegas when they expose him in the draft, trade Stepan before his awful no trade clause kicks in, the Rangers will be in line to remain competitive even when Hank finally does reach that point of not being able to bail the team out.

With several youngsters developing nicely and Buchnevich likely only going to get better as time goes by, the team has a good nucleus up front. What they need to do is get busy retooling that blueline because it is old and slow, as you stated.

The smartest fan in the room. Good to see you still around here.

I am glad Gorton remained steadfast, somewhat, in not going for gusto this deadline.

Aside from Shattenkirk, and Smith, the rumored available players were not as enticing as in year's past.

I feel a year, or def 2 from now, Buch & Vesey could be lethal but not yet. The scoring is drying up & the D is a MASH unit right now. Everything can change in a month when we're closer to the playoffs, absolutely.

Re-sign Smith, go after Shattenkirk, deal Stepan before his no trade clause kicks in, buyout Girardi, trade Klein for a mid round pick or expose him to the draft and hope he gets selected.

Not in that order.

Scoring is flat because their offense is rush based. Not a lot of strong cycle types on this team and league wide teams are getting into playoff grind it out mode. Even the bubble and unlikely playoff participants.

Buchnevich and Vesey look like they both are 25-30 goal scorers when they hit their peak.

They need the ice time though. Vigneault doesn't show enough faith in young players. Always been his weak spot in an otherwise solid coaching repertoire
