And them immediately thereafter, Torts commenced beating Nikolai Zherdev with a stick.

This team needed help on the back end and got some with Smith. They weren't going to get bigger and tougher up front just to do so. They have gotten to this point in the season, 19 wins over .500 and best road team in the league by what they have and that's skill up front and scoring. Why blow up the front end of the team because they need toughness? Skill can beat that and they have in previous years. And come playoff time, Kreider hits more as do others so if the skill of this team holds up, they will be fine.

I can also tell you that Sean Day is a good kid, whose teachers really liked him. A buddy of mine, however, knows him personally and said he has mashed potatoes for brains, so take that for whatever its worth.

We shall see. I think the refs and AV kind of neutered Kreids

I wish they did more, because like a natural fan I want to see action. But not going to complain much. Gorton didn't overpay for anything and we got a decent roster ready player that will help the back end, even if it's marginal. You can't control the other transactions that occur in the league.

Do I think we got better: Yes.
Do I think the teams around us got better: Yes.

Bottom line: Play the season out and see how the cards fall.

I'm an optimist through and through

He does do that, no doubt.

He made a comment either last year or the year before how the refs were constantly talking to him and warning him and he was really confused as to what was actually a penalty anymore.

And they also took Frankie Corrado off of Toronto's hands! God, I hope he's in the line up when they play us!!! I don't think he would make my beer league team better.

Those stats are the worst in hockey though Pete. You know that. Can you honestly tell me the last time you remember Kreider throwing a big hit? He used to destroy other players. Again I'm not blaming him per se, it just sucks cause he is so god damn strong.

This might be an unpopular opinion but that never stopped me before:

I like that Gorton didn't go for it at the deadline. Even with Shattenkirk the Rangers are, at best, the third best team in the conference.

Can they beat the caps in a seven game series? Healthy, I think they can, but can they beat the Pens in a seven game series? Even at their best I am not so sure.

If the Rangers play their cards right they can be serious contender next season. They have a lot of good pieces in place. If they can shed some deadweight, we all know who I am referring to, and continue to upgrade their defense, while not purging the few assets they have in their system, things are looking good for the team beyond this season.

Understand they weren't supposed to be as good as they have been to this point. When the season got underway many projected them to be a team in flux.
