I don't think they get out of the vs 1st round if they have to play Montreal. But I've been 99.1% of the time so don't read into it from my end.

Montreal is no cupcake, and I am not saying that I definitely think they'll win that series All I am saying is that having to beat Montreal and the Leafs/Bruins/Florida on the way to semis is a something that I think is realistic. Not sure how realistic I see it being having to be Pitt and Washington on the way there, for instance. I am not saying that is even impossible, I just think the Atlantic division track is way more realistic path to the semis.

Just saying, the imperative need of this team is RH dman. Whoever it is it's gotta be a great player. Someone on the wing has to be traded to get it. I'm not counting on Shatty coming here as UFA. It's filling your weakness from your strength. Any winger they have in the org should be on the table for said Dman. Maybe I'm nuts like usual lol but I don't get what people are missing. These Dmen don't fall from the sky, unless it's mcdonagh for Gomez I guess

I think the Smith deal was a good deal for the Rangers. IMO, Smith is a solid option. But, when the Caps are landing Shattenkirk, and making a team that is already the best in the league in the standings and on paper better, the Rangers certainly didn't win the deadline arm's race.

You are not wrong. If the Rangers want that top pair right side defensemen, and if they either can't land Shattenkirk or don't think he really is that guy, then it will cost a very good roster player to get him. That's just the way it is.
