Haven't the TSN insiders been reporting they have been asking for the moon for him and landeskog? Why would Sakic trade him now when he knows he could get more for him at the draft? Only way you get either is to over pay.
- cburgess

Because if the Edmonton Oilers have thought us anything is that waiting for that "perfect" trade when you're in last place over and over, you'll likely end up with crap...

I think Galy is a great talent, but when it comes to being a Center in this league, face-offs, positionally, defensive ability (his defensive side is very under rated for an offensive guy). Duchene is leaps and bounds better than Galy, but that comes with age and experience.

I dont know what the price is, but it has to be Serg. Especially after all the benching stuff that happened in the OHL, wonder if might have raised a red flag or 2 for Bergy? I dunno timing seems odd

- DDM-Coga

Duchene is an all around better C, age plays a factor for sure, Therrien would be another but he's still young, I truly believe he has more offensive potential than Duchene, not by leaps and bounds but he's a better goal scorer, no doubt

I think if Sergachev was a must for Sakic the discussions would have ended already, I don't believe the benching will play any part on how he's handled at this point, he's too valuable an asset to them to just move him suddenly for one incident... And if it's not Sergachev, you gotta believe it's Juulsen because I'd be shocked to see Duchene traded with the D coming back being Beaulieu

if it were to be Duchene or Kane, who would you pick?

Duchene, no hesitation

By the time Sergachev (who is just a prospect and nothing more) reaches his prime in 8-10 years, Price, Pacioretty, Galchenyuk and Weber will all be gone.

However, that core will be there the next 3-5 years likely making the playoffs and getting poop picks. So if Sergachev becomes an allstar, who will be in the team with him?

I'd trade him and hope for 5th round luck.

- l3ig_l2ecl

thats always the thing, its a high profile prospect but hes an unknown at the NHL level. He could be elite, he could be very average, you really never know. I dont doubt he will be good but there is always that what if.

Habs get the best player and take 0 risk. Avs take the risk in hoping the young pieces pan out.

will they get a Beulieu, 1st and prospect deal at the draft?

I think desperate team gives more tomorrow vs the draft

- hamiltonhabfan

I don't know. Personally if I'm Sakic, I'm not making a trade with the Habs unless Galchenyuk is coming back. Every other prospect is average at best.

yeah Beaulieu wouldnt be a center piece in any package. He might be thrown in as cap casualty bc of adding Davidson seems to me thats the replacement when or if they move on from him.

The fact you guys opened up all the cap space has got me pretty nervous.

Sakic was stupid enough to let Roy get involved in the decision making... and that hurt Colorado, seems like they were going in multiple directions. Now whether Sakic is the guy to clean up that mess or not, that is a different story, but I am not sure if he is a good or bad GM overall.

Well I doubt they even want Galchenyuk who is likely gonna get 6.5mil next season.

They are going for a rebuild and wont want to pay 2 centers 13mil/season for the next 3 seasons.

On top of that, Galchenyuk might not even want to play there, so he might go to Arbitration. Then they lose Duchene for nothing.

So no, if I'm Sakic, I don't want Galchenyuk.

That is incorrect. Roy was hired by the Kroekes and given the title of HC and VP of Hockey Ops, his conditions of taking the job. Sakic wasnt the formal GM until a year after Roy was hired. The first year Roy was handling the vast majority of GM duties, even beyond the Briere trade

The Kroenkes were stupid enough to give Roy that power from Day 1

Didn't Roy have a 3 year contract with an 4 year in option if he wanted?
He served his term no?

Who would you want then? Habs have had horrible drafts. Are you going to trade duchene for a prospect from a team who has messed up almost every draft pick recently? And a 1st rd pick in a bad draft year isn't a good selling point. Neither is bauleau who might be a top 4 d-man at best. You don't think he could get more at the draft from another team?

nope it was 4 years out of the gate. I think it was a VP 4 years, and 3 years HC with an option, which he said he wanted to be back in June then in August said nahhhhh.

Love Patty the player but that Egomaniac really fisted that team by trying to have too much say in everything

I think the late 2017 1st rounder is a must for them bc the idea of drafting Little Foote gives them a Chub. That would be a good PR story for them to get the vibes going

Well first, IMO, at the draft you have 30 teams with pieces available + Free agents a week after. Your assets aren't worth as much.

It's supply and demand. At the tdl, only a handful of teams are true buyers, and a handful are true sellers.
Duchenes value is as high as it'll get in the next 17hours.

At the draft, there's no demand. Yeah they might trade Duchene for Kane with a couple pieces + draft picks, but that's a lateral move.

They are tanking. They are rebuilding. They need under 20yo prospects and draft picks in 2017, 2018, 2019.

Nothing else.
