bigger needs than a first line center?
- DoubleDown

They have Galchenyuk who is a fine first line center imo. Additionally, I think Danault is an ok second line center. The bigger problems are Emelin playing in the top 4 and needing two top 6 wingers to complete a solid second line.

good hearing people on 690 who ripped on him all the time say how fans gave him too hard of a time.

If only they'd given him a true chance

I would take Spezza if they take Plekanec back the other way in the deal.

im not sure about that. he's gonna end up with about 40 points max and that's after spending a huge chunk of the season playing with Pacioretty and Radulov. i think ideally you have another center who drives a bit more offence.

i meant the hosts. the same ones who have complained for seasons about his spot in the line-up. though it's usually the same 8 people who call into the post game show

agree. and i would be very happy with Vanek. we know Bergevin will be aggressive and that's why he cleared out DD's salary. i don't think he traded Desharnais for the sake of trading him.

I was 100% against re-signing Vanek 5-6 years but I'm all for getting him right now. Dreger said that he won't cost as much as Hanzal. Let's do it!!!

i think he might cost a first but honestly even if he does... do we really need another McCarron/Sherbak/Juulsen in the system?

That too...I don't mind Danault but he's not a top 6 C and if he has to be included to bring in a one, bon voyage!

I'd be hesitant to give up the 1st for Vanek or any rentals... Hell, they got him for less 4 years ago

No way he costs a first IMO. His playoff record isn't exactly A1..
However, the Habs are desperate for goals. Not many other Division leaders have that issue..

I was saying this last night and people seemed offended.

He's a good 3C on many teams. A decent 2C on bottom teams.

However, on the Habs as a defensive 3C, Plekanecs > Danault for the next 2 years...

So yes, if they find a top 6 Center, he has to be packaged.

3 years ago they gave up a second round pick from the last draft and a second rounder in the upcoming draft. given where Montreal will likely draft, i prefer to give up one first rounder than 2 seconds.
