Shattenkirk is NOT a 1st pairing guy. 2nd pairing and PP specialist. He is terrible at defense. Still great on the PP! Good luck and thanks for the picks!!!

Doughty, weber, keith, hedman, eckman larrson, burns, karleson, subban, sutter, peiterangelo, giordono, these are #1 defenseman. to put orlov and niskenen in this group is absurd
- Upstate_isles

Orlov is better than Weber at this point in their careers. He's better than Keith right now too. And Suter. And Peiterangelo.

Here's the thing about me: I try not to rate a player based on his reputation. Obviously Orlov isn't going to hit the heights of those guys I mentioned (excepting Pieterangelo who's crazy overrated) at their peaks, but they are all in decline by several years.

Why would St. Louis, trade Shattenkirk?

The Caps are willing to pay to get him for 2 months. The Blues could have kept him, paid nothing, and had him for 2 months. Since they'll likely be a playoff team, this move is so stupid.

Who cares if you lose him for nothing? If you'd rent a player, then keeping your own rental is like getting a rental for free. F the St Louis GM> I'd be so mad right now if I cared at all about the Blues.

youd seriously take orlov over weber right now if offered the chance to trade them head up?

Honestly the guy is a defensive liability. He was on the ice for so many key goals against in the playoffs it wasn't even funny. Parayko made him expendable for us. We lost Backes and Brouwer for nothing last year. The fans would have lost it if we didn't move Shatty.

We have drafted a lot of NHL players in 2nd round or later. Just off the top of my head Backes and Parayko....

They are in the top 30 defenseman in the NHL.

That's what makes you a #1

IN Niskanen's case, he's a shot suppression machine. When he's on the ice, the Caps have the puck.

He's also in his fourth consecutive 30+ point season.

So he's giving you A grade defense and A- offense.

As for my boy Orlov: He does basically the same thing, with slightly better defense and slightly worse offense.

They're both legit top pairing guys and could easily anchor a lesser team's entire core.

Can we see the full list of 30 please?

Don't understand this either .have they given up on this year, I think that's illy. If you flip that thought it shows why Wild paid so much for Hanzel, if you think you have a shot at the cup and there is someone you think is gonna help. you make the move , your only giving up late first round draft picks.

Well, one of the worlds best goalies, an extremely solid defensive core, the ability to score at will, leadership all across every line, the best goal scorer in the world, who has been saving himself for the playoffs and one of the best coaches in hockey.

They are going to have the ability to steamroll almost any team

I second this. I feel like there are more than a few that'll "surprise" us.

Nothing matters until they show up in the playoffs. Will depth scoring suddenly disappear entirely again? Probably.

Because they're not winning the cup this year...really slim chance. Do you realize how mad you'd be if you cared about the Blues, lost in the playoffs and then immediately thought 'We should've traded Shattenkirk'

the pens are you're biggest challenge but I think the caps beat them this year. Rangers can score and have hank but their d is thin in front of him and you'll wear him down, also look what pens did to their d. Columbus is physical and has bob but they are inexperienced. Atlantic division leaving the isles who play you better than most everyone but in 7 games not a chance, also we will probably fall off on this road trip

Exactly what happened. Williams,MarJo,Kuz and Burakovsky disappeared. Noted playoff choker Oshie was phenominal

literally the only reason the Pens got past the Caps last year was a hot goalie. More than likely not going to happen this year. They have a good team but the caps are the clear favorites.
