Idk, something a little crazy like 7.5m x 5 years to keep the term down.
Either it hurts in term or dollars. Pick your poison. - Tumbleweed
He's asking for 7 apparently anyway. Why would he take 5 @ 37.5 over 7 @ 49? You think he's going to get almost 6/year on say a 2 year deal when he's 34 or whatever he'll be? Doubtful
It'd have to be a higher $ amount IMO |

Probably thinking its too soon to trade 2nd round picks. Seems to me this is a draft that you have a better shot at landing a Brandon Ross as opposed to a Boone Jenner. - mykokes
I guess that's fair, I would've that a 3rd would do it. But Leafs had 3 2nd rounders this year, right? There's only so many contracts they can hold, so there is a such a thing as having so many picks they become expendable.
Plus, they didn't get Burrows. |

Maybe you can top out at something over the top like $9m for 3 years for shattenkirk.
I’m not really a fan of paying alzner more than he makes now. - Tumbleweed
I would be if the other option is just sitting on cap space. |

Buy another 2nd if people feel we need 3 of em. We have a billion in cap space. |

yeah, just spitballing. might take more.
though, with a flat cap, i don't think he gets more than the $6.35m Yandle got for 7 years.

Why are people acting like he's a 6'6 Ben Smith? - 1979AD
i have no idea how anyone can be upset with this trade. weve picked 927tu327 times the past two drafts and still have alot of picks this draft. plus 862648 prospects in our system.
at some point the development of young superstars in the making should take a higher priority than collecting 800 average prospects.
imo developing their young budding nhl players in a winning atmophere is a higher priority than adding another 2 dermotts or loovs or braccos. we cant even get 1st round pick kapanen into our line up and people are worried about a 2nd round pick....when we still already have another 1 or 2 second round picks..
the team is sitting in a playoff spot as of today. its not like theyre going all in with elite prospects and 1sts while sitting 6 points out of a spot.

Oh, I get it, I was just wondering what you thought would be a crazy number to shorten the term.
I'm thinking he gets around 6.5 a year for 7 years. |

I’m ok with overpaying good players in their ufa years. Can’t get around it.
Not a fan of paying average/low-end players more than an average salary, regardless of cap space.

Pending a trade call (not official until then), DET will get 2nd rder and 3rd rder, both in 2017, from NYR for Brendan Smith. |

Well what I mean is - you overpay the guy egregiously, but it's only for one year. So what if you're paying Alzner 8.5m for one year if you have 15m in cap space you can't use to sign anyone to term because you need it the following year to pay your young stud RFAs?
He gets some extra cash and another shot at his big UFA deal a year later and you get a better D corps next season. |

Still pretty sure Washington should just completely load up and trade for JVR. Bowie and Vrana.
Adam French and I have spoken. |
