I agree, I prefer having Matthews on my hockey team than McDavid; mainly because Matthews does it all. - MaximusAurelius
Everyone thinks McDavid is way better... They are wrong.. He's better, but not at everything.. Putting up points sure, but theres so much more to consider..
Not like i care at all, but that pic he posted on Instagram while on break says a lot.. |

True...hopefully they can keep it up and were not just having 1 of those seasons like we did with Grabo/Kule/Mac.
Eichel maybe....but you're right...not many are doing what they have done. Still early...lets not jinx them. - Garnie
2 of the best rookie seasons in years or ever.. Health is the main thing. They have to stay healthy. |

Not too worried about Matthews....has some good weight to him. Hopefully Marner can avoid any more for a while. |

post a list of 4th line rentals that actually made enough of a difference to warrant trading the chance at those players i listed previously - daeth
Pretty sure Boyle has been to two cup finals and has 100 playoff games to his credit including 67 over the last 3 seasons. And don't worry, this draft won't produce those players.

I don't see the point of this trade.
Lou already said he would stay the course and not trade away picks for short term gain.
So now we trade a second rounder for a 32 year old rental.
I know we are weak at centre but why do this ? To make the playoffs to be swept by Washington or Pittsburgh? - Rang

The only team in history stupid enough to trade away high end draft picks at the deadline for fourth line players is....
well the leafs actually, but I thought the Shanahan team was supposed to smarter than that. - B-Wforever
Didn't you say earlier that now we got boyle we can trade Kadri?
So is he a crappy 4th line player, or a Kadri replacement, or just something in between. |

It's the principle of the trade I don't like.
It's counter to what Lou has been saying, even two days ago.
Uncle Lou:
We’re not going to allow, as I say, anything to get in the way in the growth of these players and putting ourselves in a position so that a contender can survive the eight, the ten years that really you build towards with a certain group of players that you have We are going to stay on this course. I think that’s what the fans want. I think the excitement or the anticipation – I really think that’s great. The fans have been tremendous. But we can’t allow what other people are thinking to get in the way of what we really feel is right for this organization and the future of it.
Would rather have the current group, including The Goat, play through the stretch run and learn what it takes to win tight games. |

I don't think the current group is changing that much, and I think many of them can benefit from having boyle, and his 67 playoff games the last 3 seasons. The fact that he is coming from a team that has alot of similarities to this leaf team is a bonus too. I rather they do this move than go all in and trade for a Shattenkirk too. As for Goat, he'll get his shot, and he can learn a lot from Boyle too.
Even if he's a rental, he can positively impact the future of this team.
If they make more moves....then I think you might have a beef. |

Jared Knight. (ok technically Boston drafted him).
The leafs traded all their second round picks for the past decade, from Kulemin to Dermott.

you don't learn what it takes to win tight games by losing tight games ex. buffalo and edmonton. Leafs went out and got a player who can help them win down the stretch and potentially get to the playoffs where the kids can learn without giving up anyone from their future. Sure they gave up a late second in a poop draft but they still have another one theyll be fine. |

I think the Leafs have done just fine with their 2nds the last 2 drafts. They can afford to give up one for a guy like Boyle. |

He's also a guy that has spent two years playing with kids, helping them get to the final one year (his second straight trip), and 17 games in last year (probably could've got past Pittsburgh if Bishop didn't die again). |
