Brian Boyle....a 6'8 center who kills penalties and can score 15 goals on the 4th line that brings in leadership. There's nothing dime a dozen about him.
- Santo_44

Agreed, I think a lot of the people that don't like this trade will get over it quick once they watch him play a few games.

He'll be great addition, and we shouldn't have to see snith anymore either.

a guy that can win 3% more hughsons than someone else isn't gonna be the difference between making or missing the playoffs

oh well. just hand out 2nds like candy i guess.

Trading picks isn’t bad.

Trading picks with no plan to recoup them is bad.

I’ll wait to the summer before I say it was a mistake.

if the leafs make the playoffs its a good move. Guys played more playoff games than any other player in the league since 2011. big body who can win draws and kill penalties will be valuable in playoff style hockey. that being said if they miss its a waste of a pick
- HealthyScratch6

Boyle playing 4 minutes a night on the 4th line makes zero difference on this current team.
Carrick/Marincin/Marchenko beside Gardiner for 20+ minutes a night is the real issue.

The Leafs buying a rental right now is a pretty big joke to be honest.

Apart from the Pens and Washington, there are no teams in the East that are significantly better than the Leafs. Leafs are not that far away as you are suggesting.

If only Matt Duchene would be 6'8''; he's 66% on the hughsons..
- MaximusAurelius

I hear that Mitch Marner is 6'8 between Wednesday at 2359 and 00:01 on a Friday...

I take it you dont see the value of having the young guys (pretty much the whole team) playing playoff hockey this early in their career would have on their development.

Having a guy like Boyle around these young guys is going to help a lot.

If that was really an Issue they could have promoted Brooks Laich for nothing, and not wasted a second rounder.

Dime a dozen 3rd liner? He's a 4th liner..... Does that mean he's a good 4th liner?

He brings a lot of what leafs missing up front like size grit defense faceoffs

Precisely!

I hate Boyle, hated playing against him - big dirty player that goes right after the smaller talented players on opposing teams - wish we would have had him against the Habs - when that snivelling coward Shaw jerked his head back to draw a cheap penalty - when Nylander tapped him on the knees. Or for one of the five times that Gallagher ran Andersen accidently on purpose. Could you imagine the crying we would hear about how dirty TO is if we did that to Price?

Leafs have 3 elite level nhl rookies + 2 pretty strong rookies + a handful of ahl prospects and junior aged prospects and we worrying about a 2nd rounder (that is what the going rate is)

Ok lets be precice here.
Boyle playing 10 minutes a night against other teams 4th lines makes zero difference........
Ben Smith, for all his issues, is only a -4.

Boyle only helps if he moves up the lineup, and they deal for d.
