You don't trade Bozak for a d. You trade Bozak for a high pick. THen package the high pick with your prospects and other picks for a d.
- mykokes

Yeah maybe.
Either way for me it comes back to the fact that Lou didn't trade a 2nd round pick for a 4th line center. He traded for Boyle to be a top 3 center. Which means something else is in the oven.

To replace Kadri right now? FOr this years playoffs? No.
- mykokes

jesus.. heres what was said..i was clearly saying Nylander is ready.. not that i want him to relace Kadri..

Bozak based on these trades would get a first.
And Nylander is not anywhere ready to be a #2 center.

- mykokes

Why not?I like Kadri as 2C for now but i think Nylander would be fine.

Hes 2 years younger than Matthews and he looks great in the 1C role..

Well nit exactly
Still a long way to go.
But as ive said all year....once the team started winning.....lou was gonna make a run for it.
This proves it

There were a lot of people saying we were talking nonsense.
Lou and Babcock ALWAYS want to make playoffs and get a shot at the cup.
This is centennial year for the Leafs, the team should to maximum to try and get into the playoffs.

Okay deal. Don't lose your lids here folks...

Froese is poop and 2nd round picks are the currency in deadline deals... Also this is management showing the team that they have faith in them making the playoffs.

Except the Goat, of course.

And it pretty much crushes any silly hope Laich had of getting a call-up.

This is it, I bet.
- mykokes

probably. marchenko on defense may have been the depth pickup. mcbackup was another one.

so adding mcbackup, marchenko and boyle all for the cost of a 2nd has been pretty economical.

a trade like this has to be good for morale right at the start of the cali trip. i like the timing of it.

Wild are buying. Why would they deal Dumba now? I could see this as an offseason deal.

oh i agree.
but based on this reasoning, Leafs would not have to worry about protecting connor brown in expansion draft (since Brown would not accept offersheet). (same for Leipsic).
which actually makes quite a bit of sense

- MaximusAurelius

But if they pick either of the 2 they'll own their rights.
what are they gonna do, sit out till they are traded?

I'm quite sure Boyle is brought in as a winger - they might even play him on a line with Bozak and Marner (trade JVR?) or with Kadri and Komarov (trade Soshnikov?).

Brown is a 2017 RFA.
So I think LV can only 'draft' him by agreeing a contract with him in the two days before the expansion draft?

I really doubt the rented Boyle spending a 2nd/Froese in order to deal Soshnikov (for what a 3rd rounder if your lucky?).

Leivo is already giving them an issue on wing, when Marner returns.

Leafs lack depth up the middle, acquire a centre and play him on the wing?

The good face off guy who can kill penalties that Smith is meant to be... is everything that Boyle is. No need to overthink it - as was mentioned before, he'll be our 4C.
