JB got great value for burrows. Didnt expect there to be a big market for him
- SMBDragon

Few Sellers but buyers have been selective. Though Burr was hard given NTC. He waived probably because of contract offer of 2 years that's great for him. Guess we won't see him moving on soon to coaching with his analytics style unless injured or bought out. Hope he comes back to the Nucks in some capacity.

Hammer was too retrictive on JB last year to get that deal done. Stars played them for the wrong player who walked and did nothing for them in their window. If they were not short sided they would have done deal with contract offer to Hammer.

Lefty has been awfully quiet today for some reason

I've been busy with life! This is an awesome trade by Benning, let's get that outta the way. It took him three years to figure out what he has, but hey, credit where it's due!

You'd think a D like Sbisa or Tanev might go. Shatenkirk trade served notice. Teams need to go for it or lose thier window and perhaps suffer the Stars fate.

What's that supposed to mean? He had offers for vets before and said sorry no go?

Didn't like the trade today for a 19 year old. We need to pick the player ourselves or do what Toronto does and trade it away for a vet and call it something else.

- boonerbuck

19 is too old for our future core. Benning needs to target 16 year olds

This is funny. Lefty, who keeps praising Toronto for their "text book" rebuild ignores that Toronto has traded away a 1st and a 2nd for vets to win now inside of the last 8 months.

"At least the Leafs don't trade away their picks" he said not too long ago.

"At least they don't take short cuts"

Their cupboards are pretty bare outside of their NHL roster as well.

Keep repeating what the Toronto media has sold you Lefty. Keeping picks and no short cuts in Toronto are "alternate facts".... meanwhile, Canucks have kept their 1st round picks and haven't traded for players closer to 30 or over... trading for 22/23 year olds...

Keep drinking the Kool Aid.

- boonerbuck

OK, where are we going with this? Are you insinuating their plan isn't working? Because even a fool would know it most certainly is. They got their guy and went from last place to a possible playoff spot in one year.

As far as trading a first, they had extra picks to try and shore up a few positions, which turned out to be a good move as well, Andersen is playing well.

He didnt say that. He said he was hearing a rumor from a source who wouldn't confirm anything.... kinda almost nearly the opposite actually.

- boonerbuck

I heard a rumor earlier today that I thought was just another stupid posting ,but then I seen this person posting everything from Bennings and Burrows press meeting . I though huh who is this person and she was a podcast blogger for Canucks. I checked her profile and it said she was 15 years old. She was smart though . She posted An ECF team is interested in acquiring the twins and she was hearing a deal was close.

I didn't say anything for the age fact and credibility issue . It is funny that Ek threw out the blip about Canucks Filpula . They have 14 mil cap space so it is mildly amusing.

I don't think it is real but wouldn't that be awesome?

Don't listen to him Lefty. Cupboards are no way near bare either. We'll see 3 more in Kapanen, Rychel and Leipsic next year. Rumours Grundstrom amd possibly Korshkov will move over to North America as well.

For now, their defense is woefully thin and Andersen historically has had bad playoffs, it's one of the reasons Anaheim let him go as Gibson was much better for them stats-wise and win-wise. Also note that the East has essentially one division that is really good and with the most contenders, the only reason Toronto is even in the race is that Price is having a bad season (for him), Boston isn't the team it once was and Ottawa is typically mediocre because of budgetary reasons.

You praise their strategy, but neglect to acknowledge that they are helped by virtue of being in the media capital of Canada and having thousands of apologists helping to spread their message around without shredding the team for it. Imagine if Benning had media that good, we probably aren't fighting over how he's building the team. Look what he has to put up with, Botchford, Willes, MacIntyre, Pratt, Price, Sekares, MacDonald, Taylor and Fat Bastard fall all over themselves to take shots at Benning and Linden for EVERY LITTLE THING. Makes you wonder right?

Yes, their recent success has absolutely nothing to do with their draft record, coaching and asset management.

Speaking of divisions, look at ours.

Really? Toronto media pressure is much more of a hindrance over the past decades than a positive. Look Shanahan was hired a year before Benning and recognized early, unlike Benning, that they needed a reset. It worked, due somewhat to luck, and it pisses you guys off.

Their best players are in the range of 19 to 25, do they have work to do, absolutely, but they're headed in the right direction and they're ahead of us.

Tell that to Patrick Laine and see if he agrees . I am sure if you look at the Calder trophy which is chosen by the media I am sure Mathews name is already on it ,do you think there is a chance in hell he can win that trophy?

Only because of a 1OA. If they lost the lottery and got 3rd or 4th, we wouldn't be saying that it is working.

But they didn't get 3rd or 4th, they got the first overall so it worked.

Pressure yes, but MUCH friendlier and willing to spread their message to the masses. Has it worked? That's too soon to say, the signs seem encouraging, but the proof is playoff success and they're going against the Shanaplan to try and make it. Benning says we're going to try and be competitive and make the playoffs while adding in young talent in a winning environment and you malign him for it. Trying to be competitive sure hasn't hurt our draft position much in the past couple of years now has it? We should have had the 3OA last year, we got unlucky, we'll get a top 5 pick this year as well, I don't see how the 'Shanaplan' as you call it is that much different from Benning's plan save that his message is different when the results are the same.
