If he's available I would kick the tires on a guy like Anthony Duclair. All the talent in the world and is a offensive skilled winger, just what we need. Again, I dont know what it would take to make that happen, but if were all about the future then that seems like a good fit, assuming Arizona is really willing to deal him... Id' say Drouin but I dont believe for a second he's available

Duclair is tough. I'd take a chance on him but is he really going to be much of an upgrade from what we currently have on the wings?

If Shattenkirk to WSH is done hopefully that opens things up for other teams to start eyeing up Streit and Del Zotto.

totally agree. its a penalty or its not. in this league, the name on the back is the determining factor on if a penalty is called and if there is suspension or not. in football, its a facemask call. its not "well who committed the penalty? oh, him? nevermind. we will pick the flag up."

Not necessarily starting a thread brawl, but I am noting that Toronto, which has been lauded for tearing things down and being patient, and which has a weaker defense, burned a second-rounder today for a UFA in an attempt to help the NHL roster make the playoffs this season

I mention this because I feel that not only did I think it is the right thing to do, I feel like it is an example of what I am trying to say: Toronto isn't a real Cup contender. They could wait another couple of years; Matthews is 19, Marner and Nylander are like 20. Reilly might be, what, 22?

And yet, when you have a chance to make the playoffs, you owe it to the NHL roster to do that.

Some of us feel that waiting and accumulating as many assets as possible, draft picks, is the way to go when you aren't a real contender, that you should align your picks and prospects and NHL roster for that magical moment when everything is aligned

And I would again remind all that that moment is not guaranteed to come and that the Oilers didn't get better until they signed free agents and made trades, not just drafted people

Mark Streit (Traded)
Nick Schultz (Who knows/Traded)
Michael Del Zotto (Traded)
Brandon Manning (Suspended)

Shayne Gostisbehere (Playing)
Radko Gudas (Playing)
Ivan Provorov (Playing)
Andrew MacDonald (Playing)

Nobody getting called up? We already know Streit and MDZ are prone to poor play and injury. Sit them!!

Boston definitely needs a D. MTL could fake it without one if they got a real center in there to back up Galchenyuk. Plekanec has clearly lost a step

That's their prerogative. Doesn't make it right. They're right now barely hanging onto a playoff spot....will a 4C be enough to really move them? Who knows. Their offense isn't the issue. If they do resign Boyle, then it's a better investment. We don't know what talk went in with that.

All I know is the Flyers are a loss away from being the 8th worst team in the NHL. They should go trading 2nds now? Our 2nd rounder could be in the 30s.

Toronto and edmonton also selected generational talents. That helps big time.

Do you do it now? No. It's too late

It should have been done when it became apparent that the Top 9 wasn't scoring enough

We are the 3rd worst scoring team in the entire league 5v5, while being the 3rd worst in preventing goals. Our PK is below average. Our PP is the only thing preventing this team from truly bottoming out. I mean, since the win streak, I believe Colorado is the only other team worse than us.

There is simply no panacea for this team that a depth trade using a 2nd rounder could provide. There is not an area of this roster that isn't flawed. Player usage is questionable; coaching is beginning to look like a concern potentially. I'm sorry but there's simply no way I make a rash short term trade to finish 9th instead of 8th. Unless you want to trade every single top prospect, this team is inherently flawed. Brian Boyle is not the missing ingredient.

And when it is said "that doesn't make it right," that implies that selecting a second-rounder that has less than a 30 percent chance of even making it to the NHL is the right call

That is an opinion, not a fact. It's not right or wrong

Considering they kept Vrana, it's a good trade for them. I'm shocked they did TBH. That team is stacked head to toe. They're Cup or bust.

So if that is the case, then there are no plaudits to be given to the management team that stands pat when the NHL roster they built is cratering

They might be good in 3-5 years. They might not. Doing nothing but waiting isn't going to guarantee it, one way or the other

You either hit on picks, hit on a FA signing, hit on a trade. But only using one of the three avenues available to you when other franchises are using three is not the way to go, imo
