Yeah I am kind of disappointed.....but I would have to ASSume BT talked to SY about Bishop. I am guessing Yzerman would have wanted Kylington or Rasmusson....so that being said I dont think it's worth trading one of those guys (potential top 4 d men) for a few month of Bishop. I say this knowing the type of contract Bishop wants, and knowing that this was why the initial Bishop to Calgary deal fell through.

EDIT:

The Flames aren't winning the cup this year with or without Bishop. And they can make the playoffs without him. So although it's a little disappointing I can see the pictures of the puzzle here.

What surprises me is how desperate LA seems. Do they really need to make the playoffs that bad?

No kidding! That wasn't very good asset management. If that's all they got, I'm surprised they didn't just hold onto him?!?!

If Bish had shown that he was a much better option than Elliot, like in years passed than yes, would have loved to snag him.

But why give up picks and prospects for a guy that has not shown to be great this year?

If he does show he still has it we can sign hum as a free agent.

Looks like the asking price for Bish would have been a decent D prospect. Glad we did not give one of them up for a guy we could sign for free in a couple months.

In a way I'm kind of surprised the Oilers didn't try to trade for Bishop, he's an upgrade over Talbot?
- FlamesFan1230

No, not the way Talbot has played this year. If you've watched te Oilers play at all, Talbot is our MVP. McDavid puts up points but we're nothing without Talbot

I think both the GM and Sutter are in the hot seat.

Elliott's last 9 games...good luck upgrading on that

Its not like the Flames are likely to go on a cup run this season...why spend assets to get a rental goalie? Let it ride and see what happens.

As for the summer, Flames must have had a deal in place they were negotiating a contract extension with Bishop...his ask was just too high

7x7 has been reported...that would be a turrible down the road

I do wonder where the Flames would be though had they had competent goal tending for the entire season. 5-10 points better likely....look where that would put them

I didn't know he was seeking that much. Totally forgot about that aspect of it. You guys can probably trade for his rights after the season for a 4th or 5th rounder. His price should have come down somewhat by then

Last I heard his ask came down to something like 5 years x 6 mill. Still too high IMO, I'd be comfortable at 4 x 5 mill or something similar.

There are going to be choices in goal for us this off season. MAF should be dirt cheap (hell Pittsburgh might even be forced to buy him out). Bishop will be UFA and a number of teams will be looking to deal one of their goalies.

I wouldn't be surprised if we even went back with Elliott and/or Johnson if they have a good showing in the playoffs.

yep...Bishop was asking for an absurd amount...
sorry you're not Carey Price so you aren't getting that money or term

He should get closer to Dubnyk money in my opinion....if he's around 4-5 million then we can take a look in the summer
we've got goalies in the pipelines so we shouldn't be jumping at overpaying on the goalie ufa market

100% and don't forget Elliott is a battler. St. Louis didn't loose playoff series because of Elliott. They lost cuz they played some good teams .teams that went on to win the cup. That a few bounces hear or there. And they could have won. And right now he is looking good. As is Johnson. So to bring in a goalie just doesn't make sense.

I wrote this on the last post:

I was at the game yesterday afternoon. Elliott looked like he was fighting the puck all game long but at the end of the day only let in one. That said, if they were playing a higher caliber team a few of those pucker-factor plays would've gone in the net. There was one shot from about the face off dot that looked routine but he didn't catch the puck, it dropped, he couldn't find it, and the Hurricanes almost jammed it in.

The defense bailed him out pretty much all game clearing pucks and people. And Staj with the headsave. That was awesome.

I'm disappointed the Flames didn't get Bishop. I like Elliott and Johnson but to shore up the goaltending would've been great for the team. I also understand that Bishop isn't his vezina self this season but I still think he'd be an upgrade over the two current goalies.

You're right. And as long as the defense keeps bailing him out, it'll work. I'm not convinced that's the plan for winning long-term, though.

On the flip side- how many games have we had where our goalies would play well all game only to let in a fluky bounce?

There was some scrambly looking saves that game but Elliott did also make 2 or 3 highlight worthy saves when it mattered as well.

We were due for a game where the bounces went our way for once

haha, even when we're not around you guys cant help but mention us. It's like that goth kid that tried out for the basketball team looking for his dads approval but his dad doesn't notice because he's too busy doing rails off strippers tits and drinking away his college fund.

That's you guys. The emo kid with the degenerate dad, who will one day express your anger on a wordpress blog and become a rainbow haired transgender advocate.

I saw a story today that Yzerman stated only LA called about Bishop??? Seems rather odd and why would he jump? Unless he has a big deal in the works and desperately needed the cap space now it doesn't seem to make sense, especially for the return.

I'd rather try and sign (Bishop or...) after the season. Maybe he'll play well enough, get signed by LA and Quick will be available?

Going back to what the Flames need.... I think our first target should be Vanek. He will cost a 1st+ and a B prospect or 2nd+ and an A prospect. He has great underlying numbers and might just help Bennett to start producing on the 3rd line. Also great insurance if anyone gets injured. If we can't get him then look to Vrbata. He has more points than anyone on our roster but with not so great advanced stats... I think that Vrbata would be cheaper but would still cost a 2nd+ and a B grade prospect.

Don't forget the 2017 draft is not deep.

Boyle gone, too bad, thhough there isn't really a spot for him necessarily, I thought he would have been a perfect fit alongside Bennett

The only way I'm walking away from the trade deadline happy is if we only target a player with term and below the age of 25. I would not be throwing away a first for any rentals at this point even if it's not a deep draft. I would rather utilize that first at the draft if something pops up. Just my opinion!

Was thinking along the same lines.

Burrows/mumps to Ottawa. Thank god.

Wonder if we're still looking for a winger with some edge..

Bishop, Boyle, and Burrows all traded for 2nd round picks (or recent 2nd round picks). The market looks pretty set.
