I get the feeling that whoever does sign him is going to regret it

Why?

Assuming you don't pick the Senyshyn, Debrusk, and Zboril's of the lot

I've honestly never felt like I have more faith in the management than these past couple of years - if anybody can unearth a good mid-first pick, it's Hunter, Bergman and the gang

If its a mid round pic for this draft...I have no issue trading for something that fits their current plan.

28 wins....33 losses. Whether it be in OT or the shoot out...its still a loss.
As Chretien would say....."what kind of loss...its a loss, a loss is a loss"

The NHL can make it "millennial accepted"....but those 13 games are still games they didnt win.

But like I said...if it gets them in the playoffs....then so be it.

- Fakepartofme

The Leafs have a pretty good ROW. Which is a better judgment. Shootouts are just silly.

Yep it's a pretty poopty draft. Top 10 is the weakest we've seen in a long time.

Leafs are at 0.566.

They have an overall losing record, but points percentage does not necessarily reflect that.

EDIT: Compare to Calgary who have a worse points percentage, but at 33-26-4 have an overall winning record.

EDIT 2: These numbers don't necessarily reflect everything though. For instance, Leafs have 28 wins and 27 ROW, showing that they suffer in the shootout (1 win in 8). Even a .500 shootout record and now we're at 31-20-10 which looks a lot more respectable.

They have points for the tie. The winners are getting the extra "parity point".

28 20 & 13 is hardly a losing record.

And before any of you start, in the old days, their record would be the same, the winner in overtime is the only one to gain a point..

- bixll

That's the way people should be viewing this problem. I dont' have a problem with each team getting a point ...it's the bonus point for the team with the fancy tricks that's "nontraditional" and IMO the problem.

Nobody's playing for a tie in 3v3 hockey. Give me 10 minutes, or less, of 3v3 then call it a day.

The other teams got the extra point for the skills competition.

Agreed - though I would want to put in some lottery protection for it

Well, it puts them with a losing record.

If each game was worth 3 then it'd work out a lot more intuitively

- lumlums

I don't see the NHL changing anything considering they must be LOVING the fact there are only a handful of teams above and below the pack while the rest are clumped so tight together. They're getting the "parity" they so vehemently desire.

That's what I keep hearing...doesn't mean the mid round picks wouldn't be serviceable though. This is the least I've known about the incoming draft class in a while.

I knew he would disagree with me.. But whatever. I am allowed to see them as a tie and not just a loss.. If they were losses the Leafs would not get a point for the regulation tie, same as the old days.

You also can't just credit a team with a "loss" for the skills competition because knowing you get the point for going to OT makes teams play differently.

Especially when your team has he 4th worst win% in the shootout since it was implemented.

So lets say Leafs "scratch and claw" their way into the playoffs this season, not to be a skeptic but lets say they're bumped first round game 7 tho as the kids came out swinging and gained a poop ton of experience.

Now any idea who Hunter and Co may be targeting at the draft. Going best player available or targeting young D (tho they will probably need 1-2 yrs of seasoning) does that fit the Big 3 rebuild timeline?

Anyway I have no clue about the Draft/prospects this year, didn't even run the simulator this season (What a time to be a Leafs fan)

Hoping for 4 of the 6 points on this road trip, would be great to beat Randy's team

Do you happen to have a site that has win% in shootouts by year/period?

That game was a bloodbath. I heard they had to sew Shaw's head back on after the high-stick.
- markmark

they did... but they reattached it backwards...

that's how he was able to see the pass in overtime so clearly as it was behind him

Well....again thats the rosie goggles way to look at it, sure.
but its labelled as a OTL...there are no ties....they are all losses. Not all in the shoot out either...but I think most.

But whatever gets them into the playoffs

Who cares how we get points if we won 10 games and lost 72 and made the playoffs with 92 points Id still be stoked.
