Everyone is permitted to have their own opinion.
There were a lot of guys though on here that last year were still big supporters of Neon Dion before he got traded - same guys that now are the first to make fun of Phaneuf and say it was a great trade for the Leafs.
I was always very much favoring Leafs trading Phaneuf, as well as I am now trading Gardiner. Obviously you can all say/think I'm crazy, but IF Gardiner is traded by the Leafs, at least be consistent in a year from now in your views and opinions. |

What I'm getting at is you don't settle for trading JVR for a mediocre return. They will be looking for a replacement for him if they did trade him. They need JVR
They just need a top pairing d man even more. And if a team isn't willing to give up an established one. Then the Leafs aren't trading him - Santo_44
I'm kind of shocked the Leafs and Anaheim haven't completed yet another trade by now, swapping an ANA D for a TOR F. |

I see it differently. Jvr is too easy to play against. I think his days are numbered here.
Though at this point, I’d be surprised if he gets moved before the entry draft.

BINGO - you understand Playoff hockey.
that's why Hanzal got such a nice return.
As well, Leafs don't need JVR, this is clearly Matthews' and Marner's team on FW; rest can be filled in and substituted. (not saying Kadri, Nylander, Brown, Komarov etc. don't have specific important roles on this Leafs team). |

I wanted Phaneuf traded and I hated Gardiner but why would we trade 1 of our 3 D for forward help?
Trade JVR for D help if we can ( not even sure I'd trade JVR ), if not I think the Leafs just keep plodding along.

Hanzel will be out with injury before the playoffs get here...he's the softest guy in the league.

Yea but you lose a JVR and end up with a Hyman on the wing of a Matthews or Marner. |

He's not a superstar like Matthews. He's a 1st line winger who's going to score 30 goals and 60 points regardless of who he's playing with. |

i don't blame minny for going all-in this year. suter, parise koivu etc. aren't getting younger and dubnyk has been great.
seems like a good year for them to go for it. |

The Leafs are not trading JVR without knowing they have a replacement for him. With him gone there is a huge hole at LW. |

Once he figures out where the net is that "net presence" will be really valuable on the PP.
Just like Bozak. He'd be amazing on the powerplay if it was actually just a shootout instead of a powerplay. |
