Decision Day for DET. Sign Brendan Smith (3 x $3.5M+ or thereabouts) or trade him. Multiple teams interested, incl NYR, amongst others.

I wouldn't mind the Hawks taking a shot at the kid. Has great shot suppression numbers, but that probably would mean Kempny sits and TVR inexplicably gets top pair minutes.

On the Vancouver Canucks …

TSN 1040: Canucks GM Jim Benning: “The picks we don’t have right now are picks 5 & 6 (rounds). So we’re working the phones, and if we can get more picks, we’d like to”

I bet Boyle is a little disappointed he's not going to a true contender, though maybe he'll sign an extension there and hope the Leafs are legit next year.

I think that's probably correct. He may have agreed to go Toronto because it is the Leafs and most important he could sign there next year. They have a legit superstar in the making and a lot of young talent besides.

How much of an impact is he going to have for 20 games?
- BetweenTheDots

It's not only the 20 games....It's trying to settle a young team down to win a playoff series or two. That's valuable experience to gain and he should help and could play dividends down the road.

based on what stats? not trying to argue just wondering what you think makes him bad this year?
- hawkss81

Fancy stats. I honestly don't understand them or know how to explain them, but I was told somewhat recently that his underlying numbers are pretty bad.
