I think Walleye has a good point that Stan's comments are for Jurco mostly and his players to a lesser degree.

How long do I think they pursued Jurco? I have no way of knowing other than to say Jurco fits the Hawks' style to a T. But you make a good point that it shouldn't take 6 weeks of negotiations to land a guy who's been scratched 20 times straight.

My political persuasion? It's simple, I believe the slob who punches a time clock is the job creator. He/she creates the demand.

Well again, my man, I can speak from some close up personal experience with this fan base, since 2010, that has really changed. The Hawks are a big deal in Chicago and across North America. Maybe not quite as front and center as th eLeafs, but they are a big deal as far as size of fan base and scope. And yes, the fans expect and obsess a lot.

If Palat sticks around after this year though, that is a top six, two way winger that you are for sure getting for a bunch of question marks. Nobody knows if Motte, Debrincat or whoever is drafted with the first will ever sum to be equal to Palat.

Looking at the aging core, namely Keith, we need help now, not two-three years down the line when these prospects might contribute.

"very" lite. Compare their first 4 years in the league. Palat has never scored 24 goals in a season. Hossa has done it 12 times. Palat is a semi rental - RFA after this season. Tampa is up against the cap too.

Palat is a fine young player, but he's not elite and is definitely not worth an overpay.

I don't think Palat will be coming to Chicago. He would almost certainly end up being a rental since the Hawks won't be able to afford to sign him. So then the Hawks likely have to get bent over a barrel and move him in the summer. Also, TB will be asking too much for the Hawks to slightly upgrade their top 6. No thanks!
