Yeah that doesn't get it done imo. Palat is basically Hossa Lite - Feds91Stammer
It would probably have to be 2018 first, and maybe Motte/Debrincat and Forsling, maybe more. |

Rico, really?
Well, all I will tell you is the two busiest times for site traffic here and across the web on hockey sites are, every year . . . February . . . and June. BY FAR. I'm not "making that up." That is an overwhelmingly true fact.
Who comprises that traffic? Fans. (and some team employees, trust me)
Why? Trade deadlines.
So when you say the 21K fans at the UC "don't care," the further implication is the hundreds of thousands of tv viewers also don't.
Point of fact, not true. They do care. That's why this (frank)ing site exists, and many more like it, and more all the time.
I do advertising in my day job and have for decades. I also study politics. Framing expectations for your brand or for yourself is a fine and important skill. Bowman is doing that.
As do other GMs and executives.
And yes, I do think secondarily, the spin is also meant to make it appear to other teams that the Hawks are not desperate or not to tip their hand.
Believe what you want. It's a free country. People do believe what they WANT to believe a lot these days. That's how we got Alternative Facts, which I don't care what your politics are, is essentially a nice name for bullpoop.
If you believe they pursued a guy for six weeks, who was a healthy scratch most nights, and finally pried him away with a third round pick, I'm not sure there's anything I can say to change how you think. You're a smart guy though. Come on, man. - John Jaeckel
Honest question and still is. If I understand you correctly you believe there are enough sophisticated Hawk fans who understand what goes on with the TDL that the spin is for them? And that Nill, Stevie Y or Rutherford take another GM's comments made for his fans to heart?
I think Walleye has a good point that Stan's comments are for Jurco mostly and his players to a lesser degree.
How long do I think they pursued Jurco? I have no way of knowing other than to say Jurco fits the Hawks' style to a T. But you make a good point that it shouldn't take 6 weeks of negotiations to land a guy who's been scratched 20 times straight.
My political persuasion? It's simple, I believe the slob who punches a time clock is the job creator. He/she creates the demand.

The D talk is all ok, but I'd be looking for a forward for Toews line. If Sakic wants to expand theDeal but insists Hartman be part of it and we get Duchene, sorry, but enjoy Colorado Ryan. It's all a moot point cause it ain't happening anyway.
Iam intrigued by Curtis Lazar though. Sheeeet this turning into a solid game of liars poker among all these GM's now. |

Well again, my man, I can speak from some close up personal experience with this fan base, since 2010, that has really changed. The Hawks are a big deal in Chicago and across North America. Maybe not quite as front and center as th eLeafs, but they are a big deal as far as size of fan base and scope. And yes, the fans expect and obsess a lot. - John Jaeckel

Motte/Debrincat, Forsling and a 1st for Palat? IDK, think I would say no thanks to that. Thats a lot of potential to give up for a LW who also never exactly stays healthy. Guy is missing an average what 15 games a season?
Don't get me wrong, I like Palat, but thats what I would deal for Dutch, not Palat |

I ain't jabbing at you, an honest question. Honestly, and maybe this should be left for a PM, I don't know why you let unbelievers get to you. Geez if Elliotte Friedman or any national guy did a Q&A blog they'd be unbelieved by a lot of fans.
Easy for me to say but so what, and I give you a lot of credit for standing in and conversing. I don't keep score at this place unless it's a poster(s) who needs 10 of his buds to give him cover for being wrong for the 77th time under his 12th screen name.

If Palat sticks around after this year though, that is a top six, two way winger that you are for sure getting for a bunch of question marks. Nobody knows if Motte, Debrincat or whoever is drafted with the first will ever sum to be equal to Palat.
Looking at the aging core, namely Keith, we need help now, not two-three years down the line when these prospects might contribute. |

"very" lite. Compare their first 4 years in the league. Palat has never scored 24 goals in a season. Hossa has done it 12 times. Palat is a semi rental - RFA after this season. Tampa is up against the cap too. |

lol absolutely not that deal for Palat.
I'd give up Motte, Pokka, and a 3rd (or something like that).
Palat is a fine young player, but he's not elite and is definitely not worth an overpay. |

Don't get me wrong, I agree with you, but that is why I said thats a lot of potential to give up. I think we can both agree with that. It is not like the Hawks pipeline is over saturated.
I prefer (in the case of Palat,) to not give up so much potential thats all. Would I complain if that deal was made? Absolutely not, but I just don't rather not make the move.

I don't think Palat will be coming to Chicago. He would almost certainly end up being a rental since the Hawks won't be able to afford to sign him. So then the Hawks likely have to get bent over a barrel and move him in the summer. Also, TB will be asking too much for the Hawks to slightly upgrade their top 6. No thanks! |
