They aren't, he's next years starting goalie, correct? - vabeachbear
I hope so. He's outplayed CC for much of the season.
CC gets one last ride this playoff season, and he either goes out with a 3rd SC or a playoff loss.
And we get Scott Darling backed up by Peter Budaj for 17-18, then Darling backed by Craig Anderson in 18-19. |

Here is my hypothesis......Hawks will end up with Oduya for DesJardins and Pokka and end up with Duchene for Kruger, Forsling, Fortin, and a 1st.
Schmaltz Toews Panik
Panarin Anisimov Kane
Hartman Duchene Hossa
Jurco Kero Rasmussen - Gary0301

When you have a puck possession team like the Hawks, I feel the face-offs are more important. Less time chasing.
And, like said before in many discussions, if you can win the draws, in the offensive/defensive zones, late in playoff games no matter the score (up 1, tied, down 1)... it is huge. - slarm
So faceoffs are one of the most overblown stats in hockey. Right up there with hits.
This is super cool: http://www.arcticicehocke...ff-even-strength-vs-power
In the playoffs, 5v5 play in open ice and shot differential is probably going to have a bigger impact on results.
Crazy stuff like a goalie playing well above replacement rate (Smith in 2011 for example) or a scorching hot player ripping in 'timely' goals (Patrick Kane 2013 in the LA series) can render any other stat sheet stuff moot.
A lot goes into winning. If they are playing a cohesive 200ft game then they probably don't have to be all that stellar at faceoffs. If they are struggling to pick up pucks in the neutral zone and limit shots on goal then no matter how many draws they win they will have issues. |

Then in the offseason, you move Seabs and/or Crawford and get a bunch back for them to replenish what you gave up for Duchene? |

How many 55%+ guys actually exist though? - Feds91Stammer
Vermette, Toews, Hanzal, Bergeron, there's a handful of others. I mean, I could go through the career stats and probably find 5-10 with career numbers 55% or more, but there are more guys who can go out and win at that rate or higher for a month or two (like during the playoffs). I think Troy Brouwer was over 55% for the year last year, though not taking draws every shift. Kruger's been over 55% for long stretches. There are some guys who are just better in the dot, you know what I mean.

If Stan could get Duchene and keep Schmaltz, Hartman, and Kero, yeah, pretty sure he'd bite on that. That's a Cup contending team this year and next. |

So i guess that kinda removes any doubt about TB being sellers...
Hopefully that could open a door for palat to chi |

5 on 5, over the course of a game, you are right.
Late in one goal games, and in the d-zone on the PK, they matter a lot more. In the "dark era" before Kruger blossomed as a face-off guy there was a serious problem for the Hawks not having an option beyond Toews, and Toews was getting overworked having to take key draws in ALL situations. So it mattered that much to Q then. I also recall Tampa trying to get back into games late in the SCF in 2015, and just not being able to win pucks because Vermette and Toews were owning them, hawks would get possession, move the puck around, send it deep, repeat. Saw it with my own eyes.
But we ARE probably making more of face-offs than we should and not looking at just how centers match up. Lots of big, physical good centers in the West: Getzlaf, Kesler, Thornton, Koivu, Haula, Carter, etc. takes a big boy or someone who plays big to go to war against those guys in the playoffs.

Nice fantasy but I doubt it. I doubt Dallas wants either Pokka or Desjardins as Pokka doesn't move well enough to be a regular player in the NHL and Desjardins is a 14th forward worth virtually nothing in a trade. Maybe your proposal is enough to get Duchene but from what JJ said Sakic wants Hartman so I doubt Sakic makes that trade.

thats who i've been looking at, granted he doesn't have the greatest career faceoff stats but this year he's running at 54.4% on the FO - worth a shot, cheaper off the radar guy |

Wonder how players in the league feel about the Isles? The whole clusterfu*k with the arena.....1.5 hour commute to practice......good old Snow as the GM. I know most guys have no say on where they go but my guess that if you asked players to rank where'd they'd like to go.....the Isles wouldn't be making the playoffs. |

Gotta feeling if these Boyle/Duchene tweets prove true then the Hawks are, in fact, focusing on Oduya or another d-man and maybe a lower profile depth forward. Ya never know though and my grapevine has been quiet since this AM. |
