I didn't take this seriously when it happened - I thought perhaps the organization was just trying to make a nice gesture to him. No one would actually make McGuire their GM, right? It certainly got Flyers' fans hopes, up, though.

The funny thing is that while he was a horrendous coach (apparently players on opposing teams heckled him when he coached the Whalers for part of a season back in the early 90's) and he would be a bad GM he would probably be a slightly better GM than coach due to his knowledge of every player's history. Of course the only position where he would actually be good is as a scout. I suspect that he knows where every NHL, AHL, and ECHL player played pee-wee hockey and always makes this known during broadcasts. Sorry PeeAir, I don't think where a player like Kunitz played hockey when he was 7 has any bearing on the current game.

Looks like Tampa has thrown in the towel. Budaj might be an upgrade. Having those 2 is not going to work in LA unless Quick is already hurt again. Nick Kypreos called this trade on hockey night in Canada last night and everyone said he was nuts. He still is nuts but he was right this time.
