BOTH times Phaneuf was traded there was significant salary that went the other way....

Oduya & his 3.5mil salary was traded out of Nj to Atlanta in the Kovalchuck deal

I don't feel like going through all the trades. Vanek was traded from Islanders to Montreal for a pick and Prince. Vanek had over a 7 million cap hit. Moving salary is easy when no term is left. Especially if a team such as the sabres can retain 50% of it.

Hagelin-Bonino-Kessel line basically won them the Cup last year
It'll be interesting to see how Hanzal meshes & what linemates he plays with

Getting Duclair was a nice pickup for them
I could see him doing quite well playing with Crosby or Malkin
