No, another blogger called me a "hack journalist" yesterday compared to the great hockey writers at ESPN. And he said all of my readers are stupid. - John Jaeckel

Messages coming fast and furious:
"To clarify... two things... Hawks will not overbid/pay against other teams interested i.e, Montreal. If (Oduya) is healthy and looks good, Hawks interest increases.
And FYI, Hawks taking calls in bunches today ..." - John Jaeckel
I'm guessing the rookies? |

Habs Bergervin is Desperate and has a Team that can't score. His prospect pool is next to zero.
It's a team that clings to a First in the Atlantic and to a post-season spot.
Bidding against this guy will not be fun. |

Hawks talked with CO about more than Duchene. And something inside me says that Duchene deal will not be completely DOA until the deadline, or someone else gets him.
Buffalo? I hear things periodically about them and the Hawks, but haven't in a while. Never know. - John Jaeckel
Yes. I think the only two teams in the Duchene deal are MTL and CHI. In the end though, it is not so much the asking price from Sakic' perspective, it is a question of whether there is sufficient urgency for COL to have to make a deal before the TDL.
Common wisdom is that contenders needing to make moves are more willing to overpay up to the TDL. Now that SB appears to be navigating that game better by being patient, perhaps something can still happen.

With the play of Moose, Krugs and now Kero dont know if Hanzal is the way to go. Looks like the D needs some help at this point. Unless Hanzal and a D comes back in a trade. But at what cost??? Best time of the year! |

Are you saying that you would trade this year's 1st round draft choice for Johnny Freekin Oduya ??? I certainly hope not !! He's not a kid anymore either.
You trade 1st rounders in a package for young, talented top 4 dmen or top 6 Omen. ...ie Duchene, Drouin, JVR, Tatar, Chychrun, OEL, etc.... - Hawkytalk
Hey Hawky...no I was referring to the going price for a Center not Oduya...sorry should have clarified. The other thing is the Hawks should be drafting towards the bottom of the 1st round (hopefully with a long playoff run)...

The Habs can't score and they think Hanzal is the answer for that issue? Yikes, Bergevin must be really worried about his job. Besides, how can they not be scoring when they have that great 1st line center Phillip Denault that he stole from the Hawks. |

On paper, that Habs team looks like it should be able score. Dunno what the issue is there. |

Don't know anything about them Z but I do know that Hanzal has now tied his career high in goals with 16. So good for him this year but this isn't some sniper that's riding in on a French white horse to save the day.
Btw, which is the same number of goals as Panik and one more than Hartman. |

don't know why wings tried to convert jurco into a grinder. maybe cuz his size was in short supply on the team and he had to be one to fill that role.
with his skill set, he'll fit in very nicely in blackhawks style of play.
tatar would have been a nice pickup cuz he's a more established player but cost would have angered some fans too.

Hope Lazar is on their to do list . Can't figure out what isn't working in Ottawa, possibly like Jurco, could be those kids just need a real NHL experienced head coach to work with them.
I am sure Toronto may be re thinking thePanik scenario, maybe they acted to quickly, much to our benefit so far. - wonthecup10

Bergevin must be really worried about his job
He is! He just hired a coach @ $5 million a year and the group he has assembled are going out in the First round if they get in at all.
Not so much that Hanzal, Sharp or Duchene will be the answer but he needs to be seen as doing something.

Will be fun to see Jurco play tonight. Can't say I have ever seen him play.
Still hoping for my H line
