I tend to think it's better to be taking calls than making calls.

The 'Hawks apparently have two scouts at the Flames - 'Canes game.

Could be something, could be nothing. With the Flames leading one of the two WC slots, and them recently acquiring Stone, they won't be selling anything.

With the 'Canes already trading Hainsey, it's hard to envision what the 'Hawks could want from Carolina. McClement? Maybe a move to attempt to pry Lindholm?

On a more somber note, Bill Paxton dies at 61 from complications after surgery. Enjoy life as if its your last day. RIP

We'll see, 3 points out and 21 games to go. If the Hawks beat STL tonight, they are even in games remaining.

They just got their goalie back, and STL may trade one of their top D-men. And I'll take the Kings championship pedigree over any of CLG, STL or NSH.

- scottak

Agree, but that "pedigree" you speak of hasn't been on display in several years, including missing the post season once.

Sounds like the Hawks have two scouts at just about every game right now, LOL. I would not be terribly surprised if the Hawks got something done with Carolina. I have not heard any player names of late.

They were very hot for Viktor Rask, fall of 2015. Have shown some interest in Skinner in the past. McClement is a possibility I suppose. I do know the Hawks talked to CAR about Desjardins last year, and they are trying to move him now.

Anyone can score 50 goals in the CHL, even Kyle Beach. Debrincat is a smurf and won't amount to anything in the NHL.
- DarthKane

Beach has 52 G and 34 A in his final year in the WHL, otherwise prior to that rather pedestrian junior scoring.

DeBrincat has lit it up every year, regardless of linemates.

Not saying he'll produce in the NHL, but a comparison to Beach is absurd.

Besides, "smurfs" have been known to succeed in the NHL.

To mention a few with some notable ommisions...http://thehockeywriters.c...0-undersized-nhl-players/

McClement would make sense as a bottom six center who can win faceoffs and kill penalties.

Oh no...another "smurf".

I stand corrected.

Right. So it very well likely could be nothing, but considering Stan has done business with Carolina fairly often (trading Versteeg there; trading TT + Bickell), it makes sense that Carolina could be a suitable trade partner for Stan as they are indeed sellers and there is that familiarity.

I recall you saying they had interest in Rask and Skinner, but considering how anemic Carolina's offense is, it's hard to see them parting with either player.

Canes appear to have someone Stan wants. A couple days ago the Hawks had 2 scouts at the Sens-Canes game. Now 2 at the canes-flames.

Btw is it just me, or does it seem inevitable that Brian Boyle ends up in Minnesota? No rumors, sources, talks, etc.

They have a pretty sound top-9, but I've read that they could use an upgrade at center for depth.

Considering Minnesota will likely try to keep their team intact and avoid making a blockbuster, and the fact that they have their most complete team in recent memory, I could definitely see them overpaying (with draft compensation) for Brian Boyle.

He's exactly the kind of player Minnesota would want to drive the 'Hawks nuts in a seven game series.

Just a hunch.

Wild have picks in round 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 in 2017 and all their picks 1-7 for the next 2 years. Is there enough there to satisfy Steve Y. with draft picks alone? Me thinks since the Wild are an up and coming team, those draft choices aren't going to be high enough. Think a prospect or NHLer gonna be needed for Boyle.
