If that was all you saw...that's understandable, since he's been a Hawk for all of 2 days.

Press are playing well.

Also would like to see LA go on a run and knock the blues out of the playoffs.

Check out the winning goal by Nashville.....how is that not offsides? Just because you jump off the ice with both feet? Even Jones and JR were like.....is that legal?

Something tells me that prioritizing playing smart defensively was what he was told by the coaching staff.
- ArlingtonRob

Honestly that has been his game ever since he came into the NHL. Not surprising either considering he idolized Hossa and Datsyuk.

Schmaltz looked good again. Sweet pass to Tazer on the goal. Every game I'm more convinced the Hawks have a bigger need than 1LW and yes I know Schmaltz hasn't played in the playoffs and may wilt under the pressure - but there are two things the Hawks need more - a faceoff winning center on the PK and maybe even more importantly a d-man who is good enough to replace Campbell or TvR.

So, Stan, go get Oduya. Hopefully Hammer is going to be back to 100% soon so with the addition of Oduya it would be similar to 2015 but maybe even better.

Doan is the best guy in the D league that takes it way too seriously. Been on the same D team since he graduated HS. Wears the C , gets the key for the locker room every day always brings the beer, never collects dues from the snipers and gets mad when they move on .always prunts his stats off of pointstreak

JR and Jones talking up Hanzal.

I just remember the 2014 WCF when the Kings big centers overwhelmed the Hawks. Adding Anisimov helped. And clearly it was why they went out and got Vermette in 2015.

Right now, the Hawks really could use a another centerman who can win draws, preferably a guy who can handle the rough going.

- John Jaeckel

Brian Boyle might be a better player than Hanzal, TBH. Hartman-Boyle-Hossa??

They need to shut Hammer down and go with the Keystone Cops til he's 100%.
- John Jaeckel

They need another defenseman stat...hope Bowman goes for defense...

Meanwhile Jurco invisible, but let's face it he's better than Hossa at least according to Feds' stats...but the kid needs an honest look. He hasn't played in a while...let's see what he has in the next few games.

The big question tonight though was seeing Kruger stapled to the bench for the most part of the third...injury/trade/? Finally got out there...

Darling looking better and better...anyone who thinks they're going to trade him - not happening.

And with the Wild acquisitions tonight I'm interested to see how Stan counters.

Don't think that was what he was saying.

Also, Kruger is "invisible" most games. It can be a good thing sometimes.

Boyle to play center, Oduya or Brandon Smith for D. Get Hammer and Kruger healthy. Team looks pretty good. Beyond that, it's a question of degree; can Schmaltz keep it up in the playoffs playing with Toews and Panik. Every game moves the needle on that question towards "yes."

Schmaltz - Toews - Panik
Panarin - Anisimov - Kane
Hartman - Boyle - Hossa
Turco/Ras/Desi - Kruger - Kero/(Tootoo/Latta)

Marcus Kruger was benched for nearly the entire third period. Q said "he's fine."

Lazar might be a better fit today. No idea how urgent the Hawks' interest is in those guys.
- John Jaeckel

Lazar would be a mighty fine addition, if not now then in the summer, especially if Kruger is dealt. I wouldn't overpay for Lazar (i.e. 1st rounder) but he's worth a shot.

In his last 8 games, Schmaltz has 3 goals, 7 assists, is +12 and is averaging over 15 mins TOI. That line is clearly clicking.

I have no idea how he will hold up under playoff pressure/physicality, but you can't trade him when he's producing like that and the Hawks have such a great need for cheap, productive players given their cap situation.

So I guess we're going to find out how he'll fare in the playoffs. One thing's for sure. They're going to need him to play well if they're going to advance.

Not clear, but he did play at least one shift late in the 3rd period.

For some guys it doesn't take much...

...for other guys wearing clown shoes will get you extra minutes (e.g. TVR).

No one can predict the future, but if Shmaltz and Hartman prove to be the real deal...

...2 outstanding late first round picks.

Big game tomorrow in the East. Ottawa vs Tampa. I'd like to think that game would have a large scout presence. Boyle is definitely a name to look at. Maybe Paquette? Both are centers, but Boyle definitely has the experience and faceoff skill.
