What? No trade yet? I expected Hexy to pull the trigger right after the game last night. Fire sale. Get it done. This team is crap. No sacred cows.

Interesting. Couturier was one of their best players in the game last night, and had a number of good scoring chances.

This season Coots seems to do two things consistently...

1. Have a good game
2. Not produce

I'm not gonna focus on him though, to me starting Neuvy 6 games in a row is ridiculous.

Couturier is in the same boat as the entire team offensively. Not good enough. They don't finish chances, and the opposition does. Of course it helps the other team to face lousy goaltending. I've never been a fan of Neuvirth, and I'm still not. If he was playing lights out I would understand it, but I don't understand why Mason has not played more.

People have questions because they're not seeing immediate results. Next year won't be any different. Hopefully he drops the VDVs of the team and let the Leiers and Laughton's prove one way or another the future with this team.

I don't think Hakstol is going anywhere anytime soon either. I'm guessing he gets all of next year as well.

Somehere in this statement lies the problem.....saying this team (frank)ing blows is really more out of frustration....but to say this team will be the same BORING product next year should not be acceptable to the fan base. The Flyers used to have an identity and apparently Hextall of all people has set out to change the culture of the team....there is still toughness in the NHL. Fear will always be a big deterrent....I'm fine with drafting and holding on to prospects, but this organization now has no identity. It's a sad time to be a Flyer fan.

Agreed....If there was a slim chance Mason was the answer going forward, we may never no.....but after last night maybe it's time for one last look.

To me couts is still valuable, but the days of suggesting he's some how a top six forward are done.....maybe one day he'll produce more, but it might not be in Philly.

You sir, are correct. This is not the worst Flyers team ever, but, JFC, it is, by far, the most boring. It's hard to get through a game any more without nodding off. Thank God for Provorov, watching his play develop has been this season's saving grace.

I agree with that, next year is a make or break year for Hakstol. I don't think he'll get fired if they start off bad, I think he'll get the whole year or at least most of it unless it is a true disaster.

I'm hoping they have 4-5 rookies on the team next year.

- FlyerFan16

4-5 rookies works if there's some great coaching at the NHL level.....look at Toronto as an example this year....they have gone with 6-7 rookies every night. After the big 3, these kids are just like Flyers prospects, similar ages, drafted in later rounds. But they all play with passion. The system works for the personnel... They are entertaining, and you get the sense that the team has a distinct direction.

Honestly I think Provy is the only thing keeping most of us watching.
I can truly say that if not for him this team would be the most boring thing to watch ever. Not thr worst team but by far the most boring.

Hak's handling of his goalies recently has been mind boggling. Neuvirth had been relatively solid, but far from very good, until he utterly crapped the bed last night. A coach with a pair (cough, cough, Mike Keenan/Ken Hitchcock, cough, cough) would have yanked him after the first softie! Did Mason bang Hak's wife? piss in his cereal?

I'm still willing to reserve judgment on Hak until he has more talent to work with, but, for a guy with 3 years left on his deal, he really seems to making a lot of rash decisions when it comes to lineups, line combos and the handling of the goalies. While the Flyers will never play to a half empty stadium, you will see a small drop in attendance next year. Who the hell wants to shell out big bucks for tickets to watch team Ambien?

Agreed, I'm utterly amazed that Neuvirth finished that game last night..makes me wonder if there is something else going on with Mason..

Also..Team Ambien is the perfect way to describe them.

Agreed.
I know Hexy likes to err on the side of patience, but you know what, sometimes it's not such a bad idea to get talented guys into the lineup as soon as possible. The 84-85 team which finished with the best record in the NHL had something like 10 rookies and 2nd year players in the lineup. Now, to be fair, they had a veteran D and fantastic goalies, but still, they won a lot of games with kids.

Knowing that AMac and Manning are likely back next year and, just for the sake of needing someone to fit the bill, I'll say that Read goes in the expansion draft, I wouldn't mind seeing a roster like this next year:

Goal: A veteran other than the 2 we have now/Stolarz

D: Gudas, Provorov, Ghost, Sanheim, Morin, Hagg, Manning
AMac is waived and can start the season on LHV's top pair with Myers

F: Giroux, Couturier, Schenn, Jake, Simmonds, TK, Raffl, Weise, Lyubimov, Cousins, Lindblom, Laughton, Leier, and one free agency addition that could perhaps be a veteran on a 1 year deal.

You would have 9 rookies/sophomores in the lineup, and while they may make some mistakes, at least the team won't be boring. And, I very much doubt that they will finish any worse in the standings than this years mess.

If there is something else going on with Mason, than put him on IR and get Stolarz some NHL experience.

Provorov is the teams best defenceman....and he just turned twenty....other then him and Simmonds no one else on this team gives me hope.

He does not have a goal scorers hands, no doubt about it. However, I still think the bigger issue is not having a number one center. IF they had a true 1C that could skate on a top line with Jake and Schenn, then a 2nd line of TK-Coots-Simmonds would be fine.

no logic for starting 30 six games straight. he's not been good enough for that. he SUCKED tonight, and they lost because of it and Murray was good at the other end.

not a single shot on goal for G. oh i know, he tried. but he apparently likes the hitting the glass from the half circle. weise was the other one without a shot. not that it's a huge deal, but he a good chance on the 2 on 1 and wires it to the covered weak side guy which of course gets deflected and goes out of play.

they played well enough to win through 2 periods. i give them credit for making it close. but those two 3rd period goals against were pure garbage. i'll give him a pass on the 2nd goal, but i think it was stoppable. he got a piece of it.

what a (frank)ing dumpster fire this team is. i hope hextall can unload as many players as possible. not thrilled with hakstol either.

- hammarby31

after the Edmonton and Washington games Hakstol should have gone back to Mason. No way in hell Mason would have gotten the next start after giving up 6 let alone 10 in 2 games.

Well, I like Konecny a lot and look forward to him returning as well. But yeah, after those 2, Simmonds, Jake when he is motivated, and occasionally getting a laugh watching Cousins make the other team crazy, there really isn't much to enjoy.

If Coots plays with TWO strong wingers, (Jake and TK or Schenn and Simmer) he produces. Then next game he is stuck with Rafl and Weiss. Nice strong power line that produces chances and has no hands. Coots is always around the net getting shots, setting screens and fighting for rebounds. Straddled with the other teams top lines as a checking assignment and strapped with checking wingers that can't finish it is small wonder that he is a minus on the season. Still one of the top forwards in +/- on the team. Is he a 2c? on this team now, yes he is. Would I love to see all our centers slide down one line? Yes, of course. If we ADD better guys at the top, the rest slide down a line and the whole team is better.
- jaws1955

We've been making the same excuses for Coots year after year. If he just had the wingers, if he didn't play so many defensive roles, when he gets more speed. If he played a full season he's on pace for 16 goals and that is in a year he played with voracek and konecny

To be fair Giroux was that guy until last year.....but he seems to have dropped a step and with his size that's a big 'step'.....last year I heard from all the pundits that he was hurt....is he still hurt or has he really slipped that much.
