he has to sign or he can become a free agent if he wants to stay for his senior year
I could see it happening - YuenglingJagr
So there is a spot waiting for madsen in LHV potentially. I think he should sign this summer. But it would be nice to get that Harvard degree |

He also might want to play for a national championship. He'll play almost every game for Harvard. |

If we're talking 2nd line center, then why shouldn't we only look at ES production? If we look at a lot of other centers that many fans would think he would be great to have as our 2nd line center, we'd find that in seasons past, he is comparable to those players at ES production. The difference is PP points, that's where Couturier comes up short. The issue is that the Flyers haven't had a strong 2nd unit PP in a while, and certainly Couturier is part of that. We've had this discussion before. Based on his usage and deployment, Couturier has put up strong ES numbers in seasons past. He is not this season, which is fair criticism. IF we can get a better center to take over and use Couturier as a 3rd line center, that's great. That would make the Flyers a stronger team. If not, Couturier is a capable 2nd line NHL center. - MJL
I agree with a lot of what you are saying, but how does he rank 74th overall? The top 30 centers we can argue and say they are on the top PP. The next 30, 2nd PP?, He is 14 outside of that. He doesnt score on the PP despite playing on the PP.
Overall he needs to put up points. 35 points a year isnt gonna cut it... |

Can't imagine a kid leaving a school like Harvard one year short of his degree. Especially when it's a hockey goalie who has no guarantee whatsoever of being an NHL player. |

Actually he's a junior so maybe he doesn't make the jump this summer. I thought I read sandstrom will likely do another year in Sweden - Just5
I think he will stay for his senior year at Harvard. There's really no rush for him to join the Phantoms. |

Just want to point out that it really isn't too difficult for college athletes to get a degree in 3 years. Happens more in football for obvious reasons, but I don't know if that's actually a deterrent for coming to the phantoms |

I don't think a lot of hockey players leave college early unless they are top talents. Most go knowing they plan to be their four years. Also since the Flyers hold his rights and they might think it's better him playing one more year at Harvard, not sure what he can do about leaving early. |

I don't necessarily think there is a threshold he needs to hit. I get that there is for most people.
As far as where he ranks....there are plenty of teams that their top 2 centers on the first PP unit. If you consider Schenn a center the Flyers are one of them. The point is that as long as Coots isn't on that first PP unit, his point totals will most likely be below all of the other centers in the NHL that do. You can't just say well if we added a guy like Duchene for Coots, we would be 10-20 points better. Duchene wouldn't hit 50-60 points without PP time.
You have to compare apples with other apples, and it is difficult to do when going between teams and usage for different players. The other part of the equation is even strength play. Coots has proved he is good at it (great at it). An extra 10 points from the power play doesn't change that at all, and it doesn't help the Flyers at evens |

Yes, the Flyers haven't had a forward break 50 points without major PP1 time since Leino in 10-11. Couturier was on pace to be the 2nd forward to do it this decade in 15-16. PP2 was actually pretty good last year with Medvedev running it. This year it sucks again.
I don't think a 2017 1st and 2018 2nd is a huge price for the Wild to pay for the best rental center available. As LeBrun said, they kept all their top prospects. |

And those picks should be later in the draft. Think the trade is a great win for both teams personally |

I think it is a huge price for what they actually received, a couple months of Hanzal and White. The draft picks are less meaningful to a team like the Wild than a prospect, but "value" wise they got hosed. It won't matter to them if they win though.
The prospect thing is kind of an empty statement. I don't think it takes away from what they gave up at all. |

I think Hanzel is a little overrated. He's got 26 points. But I guess it gives Minnesota a big 3 down the middle and he doesn't have to be the guy with Stall and Koivu ahead of him.
The picks will be later in the round but for a team like Coyotes there are just acquiring assets.
I guess both teams got what they wanted. |

They really needed another big center to compete in the West, and Coyle is better on the wing.
Hanzal will likely score less in Minnesota, but he should still help them a lot if he stays fit. |

Ryan White going to the Wild in the Hanzal trade has to be housekeeping for cap reasons right? I mean Ryan White isn't going to play on the top team in the West, while Wiese has been a healthy scratch with the Flyers right? |

I guess you missed Weise going to the top team in the West last season. It's called being a cheap, UFA forward who provides depth. |

Playoff teams always seem to try and grab those type of depth guys for in the playoffs. Playoffs are physical. Can never have enough depth.
Kind of why I am hopeful Hextall can get a good deal for Streit and Del Zotto |

Yeah this is why I don't think there's a winner-loser with this trade. Both teams walk away satisfied. |

I was more surprised about the Bishop trade. Not because he was moved but that it was LA. Kind of sucks for Budjai. Keep team close enough to be in hunt for when Quick comes back and then "see ya".
But doesn't seem like LA gave up a lot.

I'd go with Ambien or Sominex.
Ambien, when you need to sleep, and there's no Flyers game on.

Doan on the Hanzal deal...
“It’s really hard. Obviously he’s a huge part of our team and someone that you get to play with for 10 years, you appreciate and understand how valuable and how you can’t really replace him,” said Doan, before the frustration really began to appear.
“The fact we just continue to seem to go — I don’t know, it’s hard to understand exactly. I mean, you understand people’s hands are tied and you just don’t get it.”
WTF is wrong with this guy? Does he live in freaking lala land or something. You're 40 years old and you still don't understand how your team of 20 years has to operate? Go to a (frank)ing playoff team already jfc it doesn't revolve around you |
