I'd do that in a heartbeat, not sure why Vancouver would though.

I think giving a 5 year contract to any goalie that isn't headed into their prime is stupid, but this is the NHL and GMs we are talking about. You're probably right (since you are plugged into LV) and someone will do it
- YuenglingJagr

Do you think you needed to bring at least one of Stolarz or Lyon up next year? I think a great scenario is Stolarz splits time in NHL and Lyon is the guy in Lehigh Valley. That way both get solid minutes.

You realize they are. Look at all the recent drafts. Lot of big forwards who play a 200ft game and defenseman.

It's not an overnight fix.

I find it silly to discuss a complete rebuild is needed and ultimately G will be the death of this franchise. Get a consistent top 10 defense and I'll take my chances in the playoffs.

How'd you like to be a nucks fan. What the hell is that team trying to do?

This is why I like Miller as a guy to go after. At his age, he's not going to expect to be starting 65-70 games. If Miller starts 45-50 games, that leaves 32-37 for Stolarz which would be a sensible way to break the kid in.

I didn't say a complete rebuild.

But what has Giroux done or showed you that makes you think he'll get better?

Yeah one of Palat, Johnson, or Drouin will not be with Tampa come next season imo. And honestly I like all 3 players. I like the creativity with your approach to bring down the cost. Conveniently Filipula is a center too which could be a nice temporary add. What also could work with Filipula is we could trade him at the trade deadline next season with some salary retained to a contender with his expiring contract.

Got to think outside the box. Im not saying those offers are good enough but its a basis to explore a deal at least

I agree. Miller. maybe even someone like Brian Elliot or Chad Johnson. None of those guys should be expensive or want long term deals. And could be ideal partner for Staolarz.

Is he a senior?

Also what's the timetable on Sandstrom coming over?

from what I have seen, neither of them are completely polished. I think they could play in the NHL though. The Flyers current defense is not one I would want to throw a rookie goalie into though. Predictability is a huge asset for a goalie

Actually he's a junior so maybe he doesn't make the jump this summer. I thought I read sandstrom will likely do another year in Sweden

If you watch the phantoms you know the tire fire show that is will O'Neill and tj Brennan. They have been prepared very well

What makes anyone think that maybe guys like Provorov, Konency, or other younger guys take significant steps forward that a decline of G can't be mitigated with improved play from the team, especially in goal?

Wasn't Ovie like a -40 one year. The Caps are a better team because they added pieces through the draft and through savvy trades. Has it resulted in a Stanley Cup? No, but honestly winning the cup is getting in the tournament and there is a certain amount of luck or randomness involved winning it all (bounce off a skate, a clear that hits a linesman and leads to a goal, etc). However, team defense sure seems to be important.

According to Bill, he doesn't think Sandstrom comes over until 18-19. You have to figure he'll need at least one AHL season, if not 2, before he is ready.

he has to sign or he can become a free agent if he wants to stay for his senior year

I could see it happening

That is kind of the reason I brought that up. I don't necessarily think you can prepare for not knowing what your defense is going to do. However, what can happen is the goalie moves to a team with more structure and thrives from it.

He was -35 I believe. But he also scored 51 goals and 28 assists.

He can sign hi senior year. I believe they don't become a FA until sometime in August after the season.

I wasn't saying he automatically becomes a free agent if he goes back for his senior year. That only happens if he elects to do that (by not signing). If he puts together a good resume the last two years of college, it could be in his best interest

I think it's hard not sign unless your going to be a highly sought after player.
