Could be right. I think one of them will be back. - Scoob
Mason seems blackballed for whatever reason.
I thought he played well the last 4 years here, & there was still a chance of his game catching fire at some point.

That's not at all what Princess Mononoke was getting at. - Mordecai
It's exactly what the fault of the organization is.
Too arrogant to admit they are a sack of poop and grasping at straws to keep themselves relevant.
Rebuild this female dog fully. |

I'm not particularly interested in moving Voracek or Couturier unless the deal is just too good to pass up. Schenn, Giroux and Simmonds though, are guys who I'd be listening to offers for.
edit: saw ep 2 of Legion, loved it. Hoping to watch #3 later today. - BiggE
I have exactly no interest in building a team with Coots as your number 1C so Im assuming you are getting a better option in moving those other 3?

2nd half yes, Mason wasn't good down the stretch? - ravishingone
He's picking on you now.
Yes, Mason played great down the stretch last season, but isn't getting a shot now.
I guess the coach knows something no one else does. |

I really don't like the lead actor in that show. He just bothers me for some reason. - Mordecai
He's fine, but there are other cast members I like better. The whole experience of the show, the images, the sound is just so fantastic. Plus, I love the writing too.

To me Couturier would go ahead of Schenn and Simmonds...I don't think Hextall plans a full rebuild....this year is pretty much a done deal....Boston winning would put Flyers 7 points out....2-0 last I checked.
Edit: 2-1 now |

if Mason played like he did in the past few seasons
And we had 2 better defensemen, maybe 3
And another scoring option on LW, (maybe Raffl, or Read not going to $hit together).
We wouldn't be talking about blowing it up, or trading all the forwards
Maybe too many ifs |

I'm not expecting them to move all 3, I just think that they won't be as good as they are now in 3 or 4 seasons when this team is ready to contend. Jake and Coots, OTOH, should still be able to fill their roles as a top 6 winger with speed, skill and size, and a shutdown center who can chip in some offense and kill penalties.
Giroux may well be out of the league in 4 years if this decline continues, Simmonds may be as good, but generally power forwards don't age well and he's nothing special at ES now, and Schenn is already pretty much invisible at ES and I don't expect it to get any better as he moves into his late 20s

For whatever reason the Mason ship has sailed. The team isn't going into complete tank mode, Comcast would never sign off on it. Neuvy is brittle and inconsistent. Every other goalie internally is just a prospect. Hexy is going to sign a #1 goalie currently not in the organization. Of course, Mason will win vezina next year because that's he just how it goes. I hope hexy chooses wisely because this year has been very unsatisfying

no chance Hextall is on a short leash. no doubt in my mind Holmgren and ownership wasn't fully aware this is a rebuild. maybe not a tear it all down and rebuild ala Toronto but its a rebuild that is going to take time - nastyflyergirl
If they don't show any growth for 2 consecutive seasons while sticking with the same coach then Hextall should be on a short leash. His plan is not a full rebuild so he better adjust his plan or inject some youth into the team and hope it helps. This is not me questioning Hextall based on this season. But I may start if we have to go through this next season as well. |

To me the difference between this team and last year's team comes down to goaltending and ghost. i don't think the coach has handled either well this year. |

The team is not much different from Dallas in that respect, some good top forwards but poor depth, defence and goaltending. Neither having success and for good reason. |

I'm curious what people think the return on Simmonds would even be. Because I don't see a team dropping a top 5 pick for him of that's what people are hoping for. |

I like hextall a lot. But this season is certainly going to test him. I have questions about his allegiances to the current roster. It started when he first got here he had a quote that went something like "you win championships with players like coots". It wasn't much at the time but it stood out to me. Then the alleged quote about bellemare at the town hall saying he loves bellemare like a son or something weird like that.
It's going to be interesting to see what he says about this season at the end of the year. If this is what the new giroux is...going forward...I don't see how it doesn't require an adjustment to his plan |

Here is the worst case and scariest scenario. If this is the player that Giroux is going to be moving forward, or with more decline, worse. There is no adjustment to that with his contract. You're screwed in that specific situation.

Realistically it's rare that a bottom 5 team will have a need for a power forward or any player at the top of their bell curve. These teams are generally looking to add young talent
UFA Ladd at the deadline got a late 1st and marko dano...who was prob was closer to an A than a B prospect
Simmonds value is tremendous mainly due to his contract |

Right. Meaning you have to work around it at least right now |

For now his value is high. At this point he's our best player and will want to be paid as such when his contract is up.
We're (frank)ed if we keep him and (frank)ed if we trade him.
Blow the damn team up and do it the right way. |
