Sakic hasn't been trying to trade him but said he would be willing to listen to offers, but has been very specific what they are looking for. They won't trade him based on what was the best package available at the time. They want something particular and if a team is willing to meet their demands they would consider moving on from duchene , until then they are more than happy keeping onto him

I dont think Dutch wants out but its more coming to realization that they aren't 1-2 years to fix this thing. They are a few years out and need to build around MacKinnon and Rantanan properly.

Duchene has 2 years left on his contract, hes an amazing talent, but I think the logic is if you can gain multiple assets that will be hitting their stride in 3 years when the rest of the Avs young pieces catch up...Then you might have something special

What the (frank) happened? They looked pretty good a few years ago with Roy behind the bench...then it all went to poop.

How is Duchene, Landy, MacKinnon, Barrie and Johnson not a solid core? Or is that the problem? Little else after those studs?

That is the issue. THey have a good collection of players, surrounded with junk that have 0 impact to the team, and their goalies have been league worst this year. Roy (frank)ed over the team with his need and desire to eat up cap space in veteran presence. At one time they had close to 15m locked up in Iggy, Beauchemin, and Stuart. You can't win a vast majority of your cap space is locked up in 35+ contracts

Varlamov is streaky but I think he might be good again, hes finally getting the surgery he needed 2 year ago. It was rumoured that he didnt want to get it done bc he was scared of losing his job to Pickard bc Patty loved him so much.

They have some solid depth coming up, but they are a few years out in Compher, Jost, AJ Greer, before they make a real solid NHL impact. By then it might too late and they could be spinning their wheels

That was the Oilers of a mere 2 or 3 years ago. Wouldnt a simple plan of avoiding players that dont fit in the long term plan, letting contracts expire and stockpiling picks amd prospects turn this around quick? A top 2 pick would help this year as well but I dont see how trading Duchene helps much.
