What is the possibility of shutting down Hjarmalsson until playoffs? Put him on LTIR use the cap space for the deadline? The downside of that would be a larger overage I believe. Is that right, and/or possible?

Oduya is on IR with an ankle injury and hasn't played in over a month. I'd love to have Oduya back but not if he isn't going to play at close to 100%.

New guy here why does Hossa post "first"?
- Mrwirtz

Silly tradition.

Basically, a fist pump celebrating being first to comment after reading a new JJ post.

They just put Glass on waivers... odd
- furso27

Per Pierre LeBrun

Glass was signed to a contract just yesterday by the Chicago Blackhawks, and would need waivers in order to remain in Rockford where he is currently playing. Similar to the situation Adam Pardy went through earlier this year, Glass is not expected to spend much time in the NHL this season unless the Blackhawks decide to move Scott Darling at the deadline.

Will look up the cap saving later and let you know but the 10 game and 24 day rules says that the first game back if they did that would be March 21 vs Van.

Can't recall the last time EK nailed a rumor to fact. I don't even read his stuff anymore, only JJ.

Let him sit until he is healthy. Fact that he's injured just keeps the price down. Get Hammer and Oduya healthy and have 51/57 as 3rd pairing. Let Rosy rot in the press box

Ok, here are the cap saving rules per the site: CapFriendly

Basic Formula
This formula is used throughout the season and during the off-season
Amount team can exceed the cap = Cap hit of LTIR player - Amount of cap space available

Basic Formula Example
The league upper limit is $69M. A team has an averaged club salary of $68M and a player with a cap hit of $5M becomes injured and the team places him on LTIR. The team is now permitted to spend up to a new limit of $72M:
1. Cap hit of LTIR player is $5M
2. Amount of cap space available to team = $69M - $68M = $1M
3. Amount team can exceed the cap = $5M - $1M = $4M
4. New limit = $69M + $4M = $73M

To add to this example, if the team were to recall a player from the AHL, with a cap hit of $950k, the teams would instead be permitted to spend up to a new limit of $72.95M:
1. Cap hit of LTIR player is $5M
2. Amount of cap space available to team = $69M - $68.95M = $0.05M
3. Amount team can exceed the cap = $5M - $0.05M = $4.95M
4. New limit = $69M + $4.95M = $73.95M

For this reason, when a player is activated onto LTIR, one day recalls are relatively common as they can be used to maximize the cap relief from an LTIR player.

Per the same website, Hammer's cap hit is $4.1M currently.

JJ any word on if the hawks intend to put Hammer on IR to build the cap space up over the next 5 days or so?

So if they put Hammer on LTIR, they can bring someone like Duchene in without Colorado having to retain salary essentially is what you're pointing out? If that's the case, Hammer may not be hurt at all and Stan is using a loophole to not get fleeced. The plot thickens gents ooo wee

Before we start figuring out how much cap space we can save by putting Hammer on LTIR - let's hope he doesn't have something that would require LTIR. Optimistically thinking that since he tried to give it a go last night it's probably not serious enough to consider IR, let alone LTIR.

Watching last night's game, Chychrun stood out to me for Zona. Big hitter, stay at home d-man. Might be a good one in the making. Always loved Ekman-Larsson but alas he'll never be ours. Guy does everything and special teams stud.

Agree 100% Ebony, but you know the drill. Might as well provide the formula, we used it well back when Kaner got hurt to get the suspended one, Vermette.

What if Sakic was telling Stan, the only way they'd retain salary for Duchene was if Hartman was included? Via the loophole if Hammer goes to LTIR, they don't need Sakic to retain salary and hellllllo Duchene! Probably not, but hey wtf else are we going to talk about rn?!

Per the Blue's website:
Patrik Berglund agrees to 5 yr, $19.25M extension.

Really just leaves Hanzal and Boyle as available big centers on the rental market.
