If the Penguins don't find any takers for MAF why wouldn't Vegas just take Murray?
I doubt MAF waives his NMC to finish his career with an expansion team.
We will definitely take a look at Bishop and MAF. But if the asking price is too high then I wouldn't be surprised if we just resigned one or both of Johnson and Elliott.
We could also look at filling the role internally. Gillies will have a full pro season under his belt. He's the same age as Murray and was just as highly touted. I bet the Flames brass is hoping that he will be able to step up so that we don't have to go outside the organization for goaltending help at all. - Saskabush
People need to start waking up to the fact that Gilles isn't an amazing can't miss prospect and it's looking far less likely that he'll be the future goalie of the team. He hasn't been good this year and is putting up worse numbers than Ortio was in the AHL when everyone on these boards thought he could be an NHL goalie. Gilles does not look like an NHL ready goalie right now.
You may think Gilles was as highly touted a prospect as Murray but look at their numbers when they began playing professional hockey. |

To me trading in division means just that.
Trading into our division would have made more sense. |

Gillies started his pro career with his brother dying and getting season ending knee surgery. This year seems like an uphill climb to get his confidence back.
His stats aren't terrible this year for a rookie goalie in the AHL though! |

Versteeg had no place on our team. I'm happy with the Lucic signing. He's doing exactly what he was expected to do here. The contract is the cost of doing business in UFA. Keep grasping at straws. Oilers>>>> flames. Not even close either. - Iloveeveryone
Someone is trying his best today.
You have a point though. No place on the Oilers. The spot was given to Pulju and he ran with it.
How is Caguilla supposed to get his 11 points if Versteeg is getting 30 with the same minutes?
Also Chia gave Caguilla a bigger contract than what Versteeg got.
"The contract is the cost of doing business"
Thats what you sound like. |

I agree that Gillies doesn't compare to Murray.
The dude has started most of the games during this massive losing streak and has kept above .900. This is likely the lowest his sv% and GAA will be all year.
Ortio got worse statistically as his development went on. He's a good example of how much confidence matters for a pro goalie. I'll refer again to the brother dying and the season spent on the couch Gillies had to go through. |

Gillies and Rittich have been the only bright spots on that team for most of the year. He does have the ability to steal games and the skill/size to become an NHL goalie. Of course it isn't a sure thing (goalies are (frank)in weird), but he could just use a shot on a good team.
Everyone forgets how poopty Ferland was doing in the AHL before he was called up for the playoff run. Once he was given a shot it was quite clear that he belonged in the NHL. AHL stats don't really mean a whole lot, friggin Agostino is leading the league in points. |
