Neuvirth playing as much as he has is such a goofy coaching decision. - SuperSchennBros
Why? Aside from the Edmonton game, he's just better than Mason has recently. Although I think they should have split the back-to-backs. |

No matter who they trade from the d, I would be shocked if you see any of their big prospects like the ones you mentioned playing in nhl on this train wreck when they are playing and winning in the ahl. You don't want them around this garbage |

Yes. And I am fully aware that this is highly unusual weather for February. Nevertheless, the more of these games you have, and the later you have them, the risk for unfavorable conditions rises.
My overriding point is that there are too many outdoor games now anyway.

on the heels of yesterdays Sixers debacle, Ben Simmons ruled out for the season. - PLindbergh31
I predicted this earlier.
It was the back door tank.
Plus Simmons has bonuses in his contract for rookie of the year. So if he played he probably wouldn't get it this year and wouldn't be eligible next year.
I actually don't think Simmonds was really pushing it to comeback.

So you ask why and than make a case why Mason should have gotten some playing time in. |

Since he returned from a knee injury on Jan. 7, Neuvirth has a 6-6-1 record, 2.44 goals-against average and .905 save percentage in 14 games. In the same timeframe, Mason has a 2-4-1 record, 3.22 goals-against average and .889 save percentage in nine games. |

Yeah, I think Mason should have gotten a game. But I don't think it's "goofy" that Neuvirth has been getting the bulk of the playing time. I didn't take "as much as he has" to mean "every single game." |

Oh, you're right. Mason should never start a game again. |

I think the fact Mason didn't get one of the starts against Calgary or Edmonton is goofy. |

I don't think if management thought for a second this team would be playing like this he wouldn't be here right now. Morin and haag are in the ahl making major contributions to the team now. Removing them from that would be a mistake imo. Doesn't mean I owuldnt love to see Morin up and playing. |

I agree, but I understand why Neuvirth is getting the majority of the time. He's playing better and deserves it. |

And if Mason played in Edmonton against that fired up Oilers team the gap would be bigger than .905 to .889. |

This double negative is confusing.
Are you trying to say that management would or would not have preferred to have him on a team playing this poorly? |

Oh, I am. But I didn't mind them giving Kelly a shot, because in that league, you gotta have a legit coach and elite QB to win, and both are hard to find.
It's hard for me to kill the Eagles, because they have been trying like hell to find a QB since McNabb started to decline. It's just so damn hard to do, but they know they need it and they don't try to pretend otherwise |

Right. Giving him the bulk is fine but giving him all of the starts including a back to back I don't agree with. The trade deadline is Wednesday and in my opinion you have to trade one of the UFA goaltenders and role with the other for the remainder of the season. Now, unless Hextall plans on trading Neuvirth and is currently show casing him, than fine. If we plan on trading Mason and the coaching is helping Mason's value jump off a cliff.
My issue is more so against the offense which is nonexistent and the a horrid defense that nolong features Kimmo Timonen and Brayden Coburn. Two guys who can really help a goaltender out. |
