they may have won again in 1996 without the Kurri trade debacle
Neil Smith trying to catch lightning in a bottle again - jimbro83
Absolutely brutal trade kurri was shot I remember being at garden watching Mcsorley falling all over ice as well. |

I don't think it's a slippery slope at all. Each team should be held to a benchmark cap which is adjusted for each teams home state. - Bean_Dip
And small market teams will argue guys like Vesey and Hayes will never sign there so the big markets have the advantage there. |

It would be great if it was a guarentee. But every year we try the same thing and it has yet to workout. Richards was the answer. Redden. E. Staal. MSL (the only one you could argue "worked"). Drury and Gomez were the answer. Yandle was going to fix the PP. etc. I'd rather get a younger guy than a guy were going to pay for 2 years in his 20's and 5 years in his 30's. - nyrangers9479
OMG stop bringing up Wade Redden

The Eastern final vs Philly took me a long time to get over really thought they were on a special run with Gretz and Messier. But team was so banged up in that series and Philly with the legion of domm line was just too much. |

Wade Redden is on Tom Renny. He wanted him, and lobbied Sather to sign him. Then or course, Torts inherited him, and couldn't wait to jettison him. |

@RickCarpiniello
Per @DarrenDreger on TSN, it seems Rangers are "zeroing in on" Detroit D Brendan Smith (age 28, lefty, former first-rounder, will be UFA). |

my opinion is they are getting this out there to scare the Blues so they'll lower their demands on Shatty
but, yeah, definitely a rental if they acquire Brendan Smith
then they go into playoffs with 8 defensemen |

@RickCarpiniello @DarrenDreger Brendan Smith is another Wisconsin player. Teammate of McDonagh and Stepan. |

I seem to recall Matteau scoring not 1, but 2 double OT goals in the ECF. - B2B76
Are you saying Amonte couldn't have contributed significantly to wins, or Keenan wouldn't have given him the chance? I know there are no guarantees that keeping Amonte would have worked out for the Rangers cup hopes that year, but when they made the trade there were no guarantees, either. |

Looks like Rangers may be in on Brendan Smith. Wonder if he is a fallback in case no Shattenkirk or if he would be in addition to him. Another Wisconsin product. Usually plays on the left side but could move to the right if needed. |

I say this with complete seriousness...I wonder if the Rangers considered looking into trying to bring back Duclair, if the price is manageable.
His speed would fit right in with your system and if he can get his act together it might end up being worth sucking up the embarrassment of trading for a guy you traded away. |

I'm thinking more of an offseason move, probably should have specified. He can be Grabner's replacement after LV takes him. |
