Brett was the same actor who played the younger self of Doc Graham in Field of Dreams & also was one of the Doors in that Doors movie. Can't remember which one.

edit-Frank Whaley is his name. been in tons of other roles too.

The Rangers have been trying to unload Nash since last year's deadline, sorry he's not viewed with the same admiration you have.
- OLDSCHOOL#6

It would also make sense from a salary cap perspective going forward after this season. Out with Nash and in with Shatty is pretty much a zero sum game.
But that means Buch is bumped up and needs to produce, or it will be Pirri or Puempel possibly in the top 9

Playing devil's advocate with Nash's playoff scoring (scoring ONLY) history, its an interesting thing to think about.

Yep, What a lineup that was playing the Doors. Val Kilmer of course as Morrison, Whaley as Kreiger, Kyle MacLoughlin as Ray Manzerek & Johnny Drama as John Densmore.

Rangers could have accomplished the same thing in 94 with Amonte (rather than Noonan and Matteau), but Keenan wanted veterans. Dumb trade.

Yea it's doable just seems to over complicate things a bit.

While the no state tax is a pro for signing in Florida, I'm sure the weather plays just as much of a competitive advantage to luring players there. Should we only have NHL teams that have the same climate to level the playing field even more?

- rangerdanger94

biggest advantage FLA and TX have is no state taxes, NY has way way more resources. the bigger cities with higher taxes also have much larger populations meaning more fans, more ticket sales, higher revenue, which translates into better arenas, better equipment, better staff.

in all reality the larger higher tax cites actually have a large advantage over the smaller cities with lower taxes.

why would they be trying to "unload"? take him away from this team and we have a massive hole. regardless of view point, he is currently our most complete forward. He contributes offensively, defensively, in the locker room.

I am not against trading him, i just dont see them trading him now when they are going into the playoffs. that is an offseason move IMO.

I love the Tikkanen-ese but can also hate that we had to give up Doug Weight

if you are trading Nash, why not trade Zucc? he is younger, currently has more points, and on a lower cap hit contract. you cant argue that he would not be worth more than Nash. The same arguments for not trading Zucc you can apply to Nash. and for those that say but Zucc is a playoff performer - he has 0.5 point per game in the playoffs.... Nash had 0.55, basically equivalent.

I dont see any reason why trading any of out top 9 forwards makes sense this year. we have been begging for 3 scoring lines for a while, we finally have that and people want to blow it up??

they turned Tikkanen into Petr Nedved though, and in 1994, Nedved was projected to be better than Weight would be. It's the subsequent trades that screwed that one up.

I seem to recall Matteau scoring not 1, but 2 double OT goals in the ECF.

The Cup trumps all. That's why I never griped about all the youth we dealt away in 94, it was a necessary means to that ultimate end.
- B2B76

It would be great if it was a guarentee. But every year we try the same thing and it has yet to workout. Richards was the answer. Redden. E. Staal. MSL (the only one you could argue "worked"). Drury and Gomez were the answer. Yandle was going to fix the PP. etc. I'd rather get a younger guy than a guy were going to pay for 2 years in his 20's and 5 years in his 30's.

What if a state changes its tax rate halfway through the season?

Plus, it would severely limit the trade market. Teams in cities with high tax rates would only be able to trade with other teams with high tax rates since they're salaries and cap space will be proportional while teams with low tax rates and low caps couldn't acquire a guy making 7mm a year in NY.

yup sounds like a ~ slippery slope
