Gotta be concerned about how many they're giving up:
Last 13 games (including tonite) - in 9, they've given up 3 or more. - StLBravesFan
You, like Rob, never cease to amaze me. Never pleased. Always worried. What else is new. |

Once again they get a 2 goal lead and start playing fast and loose, which is why the Yotes tied this game in the 1st. Unlike past years this team takes no pride in strangling the opponent defensively. If this is how they are going to play during the regular season this is how they will play come playoff time, which means no Stanley Cup - BetweenTheDots
We've been playing our best hockey of the season lately....
I just don't get you guys.... |

But they are a 53.9 CF..... - Return of the Roar
And they'll win 8 of those games, yeah....
But how well is giving up triples-plus going to work in the play-offs - when scoring 3 is going to be much tougher....
Something to fix. |

Hopefully Hammer is ok with the lower back issue but it wouldn't be the worst thing for him to sit out a week or so. |

Stop acting like we're a team that gives up too many goals. We've been top 7-8 in GA all season long. Even better at 5v5.
I remember you constantly complaining about our lack of scoring. Now that we're scoring you're overreacting to a small, temporary uptick in our GA. Go figure |

He must have been less than 100% before the game. Didn't practice and the Hawks starting 7 Dmen. Probably means it isn't too serious, or he likely wouldn't have dressed tonight...at least that is what I'd assume. Hope to see him back again soon. |

I think a lot of the recent GA is to do with Crawford just not being sharp lately. A few bad ones given up in the last few weeks. |

This is encouraging, Hawks making it very difficult for the Yotes to get anything started, if this is how they start closing games out it'll make me very happy

Just to add, last 30 days, Hawks GAA (before tonight) is 2.70...but 2.47 GAA before that.
Pretty much means the in the last 10 games they've given up 2-3 more goals than they were earlier in the year. Like I said, just a couple/few softies that got in. |

The good thing, Hawks are positive in shot differential in these last 30 days...which is a nice change from the deficit they had up until that point.
Up until Jan 24th (inclusive) they were -1.73 in shots on goal per game, but +3.4 lately, which is a nice swing in the right direction. |

Defense has improved here in the 3rd for sure. Still tough to judge this game overall without Hammer. |

Since Crawford came back from surgery, they've given up 70 in 25 games - 2.8 per game, 15th in the league.
5x5, they've given up 50 - 2.0 per game, 20th in the league.
Now, they're scoring more - and winning (16-9-0), so maybe it doesn't matter.
My preference would be to tighten up the defense for when the offense doesn't come so "easily", but YMMV, I guess.

Anyone notice the placement of top players shots (and where goals are being scored).
One thing I noticed specifically with Kane on his shot placement, is he's shooting towards the goalies pants, where new NHL regulations just make them smaller. And, its working...

Well, collect the 2 points and prepare to play a much better defensive game against the Blues on Sunday. Hopefully Hammer is OK by then. |
