You cant compare those two on the ice though. Its not even close.

Fine, agreed, but we don't need Green and we don't need to pay the cost to get him. And the whole Green debate is stupid. We need a defensive NHL defenseman with some physicality that doesn't break the bank and set the franchise back. That ain't Green.

Mike Green, age 31, salary 6 million dollars, injured 11 times since 13-14, will cost a player, a prospect and a first.
Dmitri Kulikov, age 26, salary 4.5 million(expiring this summer), injured 2 times entire career, will cost a third round pick with salary retained.
In case anyone wants to waste the limited assets we have on points we don't need from the defensive position.

Kessel was known to be better and try harder in higher stake games (playoffs and Olympics), it was the mid season laziness most people had a problem with. Even last year in February when the Pens were outside the playoff picture he started coming on when the games were super important.
- MattStrat

Oh I wasn't saying Green would win the Conn Smythe, just saying the whole Green doesn't try thing is just as much a misconception as him being bad at defense/pp specialist stuff. Would you rather have Daley at 3.3 on the 2nd pair of Mike Green at 4.25?

Because I know that Daley can fit in on the Pens good, even though he hasnt had a great season, is a better and faster skater than Green, his first pass is just as good or better and cost 1 mill less. I'd take Daley.

I also know that Daley has a little edge in him. A bit of ferocity. Ive seen him pay the price. Ive watched Green in the playoffs quite a bit and more often than not thought his play and effort was pathetic, especially for that time of year. Its like he's still playing in November.

His (Green) numbers have definitely been unimpressive the last few playoff runs, I was surprised at that when I looked. I just wonder if Daley playing well last season was like an aberration, and moving forward he's going to be more similar to the player he has been prior to joining the Pens. That's what worries me. Sometimes you see guys excel on new teams before regressing to the norms (Daley, Hagelin, Perron all come to mind).

I don't know if you're agreeing or disagreeing and I don't care. There are no words to express how little I value your opinion or you as a "human being." The fact you are on here refreshing this forum 24 hours a day 7 days a week says all I need to know about your value to the human race. Again ignore me, pretend I don't exist. Like I do to you usually.

Yeah its definitely a possibility. These guys have a played a F load of hockey the past few years and I feel at times this season they just go into cruise control especially if theyre already winning in a game. They are the best team in the league when trailing so they really know how to turn it up and when they do turn it up be successful. I think just about every player but Sid, Geno and Kessel's numbers and stats are down, arnt they?

They need energy in the bank for post season. Perhaps all the rest will be good for the ageing Daley and the (IMO) under conditioned Maatta.

EDIT: Sheary's numbers are definitely up too.

Nah I don't think every players numbers are down. Schultz, Rust, Sheary, Wilson are all producing really well. Bonino, Hagelin, and Maatta's numbers worry me given how much time those guys play. But then again they have scored the most goals in the league up to date. They are about average in goals against as well. I'm just wondering, if they are cruising, when do they turn it off and get to playoff hockey?

When playoffs start, perhaps? At least I hope so anyway.

Ive seen them play at playoff level, or close to anyway, quite often in the 3rd period when trailing this season.

Him at 6M is a no-go, 4.25M is much easier to swallow. And I don't buy that champion material poop, same was said about Phil Kessel, and dude almost won the Conn Smythe.
- j.boyd919

I agree with this. Salary too high. Championship material doesn't matter.

I just don't think he's a good fit. On a good team he's a 2nd pairing guy and Schultz is pretty much fine as an offensive dman on the 2nd pair.

I really haven't followed him much in detroit. Just remember the reputation in washington he was all offense no defense.

He's really rounded out his game in his last year in Washington and his few years in Detroit

I've always been a fan of the strategy of teams with excess talent saving some during the regular season. Maybe that is why Kessel has been healthy throughout his career. By pacing himself and avoiding bad situations. Cups are a lot bigger deal than Presidents Trophy's.

It also explains why call-ups often have 10 good games before slowing done. They can't maintain that initial rush of trying to impress at the NHL level.
