sabres don't need to do anything this year...they can sit back, take offers and see what unfolds in the off season...

jake muzzin or alex Martinez won't turn this defense around...it might help but it would be more than offset by the loss of the team's leading goal scorer, imo

Didn't say this year. Didn't say either one would automatically turn it around. Its a deal they need to because they need high end defencemen. Odds of them finding goal scoring wingers to replace that production are significantly higher than them finding 2 d-men without giving up anything of value.

Yeah, I don't think we can find a guy without flaws in FA though.

And people are taking Kane/Reinhart etc off the table.

The time for trading for one or 2 D to fill out the defense is after the trade deadline, when deals start happening due to the expansion draft.

He actually stood out to me for a good portion of the game. He seemed to have pretty decent wheels. Maybe not quite the type that Bailey/Baptiste do, but I thought overall he looked pretty decent yesterday.

Take it with a grain of salt though, because it's only 1 game. I haven't seen any others.

He also kind of looks like he's not a push over, there is a drive about his game that's nice to see. I don't think he's a crap prospect anymore. He still has a helluva way to climb, but he's improving rapidly.

Bad pick agreed. But I think he has the possibility to be one of those players that suddenly gets it and comes out of nowhere to be a decent player. 3rd line scoring winger I think is still fair for his ceiling.

It'll be interesting to see what becomes of him. But I did think he was one of the guys that was most noticeable out there. I noticed him more than Nylander, but that doesn't necessarily mean Nylander won't be good. Murray said after the WJC that Nylander's issue right now is just consistency. He'll look amazing one game and then the next he looks like he's a mess. It's all part of the learning curve for a young player that's playing in a league full of guys that are quite a bit older.

He does fully expect to see Nylander push for an NHL spot next year.
