and Toews scores just as much as him. You think Kopitar would be leading his team in scoring if they had Kane?

The number of points he had more than the 2nd best player on his team each year.

Would Toews be able to carry an offense like Kopitar has while also playing elite defense? I doubt it.

The beautiful thing about top players is that they are all unique and we have to make pitiful comparisons.

*Remembers the Duchene = Sakic comps...olololololol*

Like seriously. Who the (frank) does Matthews play like? Kopitar a little, sure, but Kopi has never shot the puck that much.

- AdamFrench

I think the problem is they compare them to one.

We need to make hybrid comparisons.

Matthews = Toews/Sakic mix with Kopitar size

Though his first non-ELC contract at $3.75m per year for three years would be nice

If he then shows after 6 years that he's worth $8m per then I'm okay with that.

- lumlums

i'm hoping they sign him 5 years ~$4.5-$5.5M. then the big contract

Matthews is like Gretzky, Lemieux and Bobby Orr in 1 person. Best ever

I think you'll see a road map for Matthews resigning with what Chiarelli does with McDavid (probably for a little less $). Assuming he doesn't trade him for a pile of Richards.

He's kind of a hybrid between a few players for me:

Body size/shape and reading the game: Kopi
Puck possession, vision and takeaways: Jumbo
Speed of Shot/accuracy: Carter

Obviously there's so much more to the game, but those are just a few of the qualities that remind me of current NHLers. In many ways he reminds me of Jumbo Joe, but he's a much better whooter which will offset the G/A ratio a little.

Just my opinion. He plays a better offensive game for me, and has 5 seasons of >70 points compared to one for Toews. Toews has also been on much more balanced teams for the most part. Kopitar has better at shot suppression than Toews, and also plays more time shorthanded (while generating better results).

You're obviously entitled to your opinion that Kopitar is a better player, but their stats and achievements are very similar.

I'd honestly like to see Leipsic get a shot with him... he has that energetic style that Babrichard likes, but has MUCH better hands than Hyman.

I liked Hyman when he was still consistently digging pucks out of the corner. He seems to have run out of gas lately.
