This is a simplistic argument. You have completely ignored the NTC for Burrows and Hansen. Sure there will be trades. Teams with more desirable assets will make a few trades. I don't believe Burrows is a valued asset at the TDL. HAnsen? Absolutely but the ball is in his court. If he doesn't want to move he won't. I agree that it's a loss for Benning if he can't make some sort of trade though. I'd like to see a few of your trade proposals since you love being an arm chair GM
- CanuckDon

Hansen has no choice. he can't say no to a trade. The best he can do is try and submit a list of teams that won't want him.

i'm with you on what the team should do about boeser.

just pointing out that in the salary cap era, the team really needs to have long term strategies with respect to the cap and that burning a year of an ELC isn't necessarily bad.

- RealityChecker

I think I just don't really give a poop about the feelings of fans, or the revenue for ownership. I don't really need to see the potential of kid in the last few meaningless games of a season to get me amped for next year while I know the consequences you know. I much prefer to worry about future cap of a player deemed to probably get a decent raise in the next few years, rather than feelings

100%...I'm secretly looking forward to the freak out though. My favorite is when fans say they are done with the organization
- CanuckDon

Then the next day they are in here telling JB and TL what to do for next season.

I have never heard of this... I was always under the impression that NCAA players burn a year once they play their first game...
- Codes1087

No you are correct, Boeser's 20th birthday is in 3 days so he will be too old to slide

In the NHL CBA, a player signed to an ELC that is under 20 years of age and plays less than 10 NHL games in the season has their contract slide a year.... The caveat is that due to the current language in the CBA, the age cutoff has to do with the player's age in the same calendar year of the contract. Since Connor is a December birthday, he is turning 20 this calendar year and any ELC he signs this year would not slide.

What can/ will he do?
- CanuckDon

What can he do?

Sutter, Granlund, Sbisa, Tanev are all guys who have value and could be moved for a return.

Understandably guys like Hansen, Miller and Burrows will be harder to move but they still can be moved.

I think based off of the disappointment of last year and the reality that one of Sbisa or Hansen will lost during expansion, those are the two more likely to be moved.

that's what the prospects tourney, exhibitions and main camp is for. Everyone team goes through growing pains with rookies, willing to give the kid 650k (or whatever max level ELC is) to give the kid a 10 game look?
- Codes1087

Calling the season over so why not give BB a 9 game get his feet wet opportunity.
If he signs asap why delay instead of gettng him an early taste of the pros?

Give him a longer offseason to get that wrist 100% and ready to hit the ground running next year
- WhiteLie

Abso-facking-lutely. have him come to camp healthy and ready to go. If he has a good camp (which he should) then place him in the lineup as needed.

The LAST thing we need is some jackass like Ferkland running around out there with the intent to injure and we have a Rodin situation with Boeser next year...no f**cking way.

Next year.

If Hansen doesn't get traded. Should sell high on Granlund.

He's our best prospect and he and his agent know it.
Bet you he gets whatever he wants including the burned year, bonuses and the expectation/promise that he's given a legitimate shot at the NHL right out of the gate, deserved or not.

But hey, I'm totally with you.

- Whiskey-Tango

He will probably get 925k and then performance bonus's. all bonus's combined will prob bring him to the max rookie contract.

you want Boeser, to sign and burn 1 year of his entry level, to play a handful of games, on a losing Canuck team, to play in limited minutes, and reason being you want him to get prepped for 2017/2018? And Chemistry? At the tail end of his NCAA season and the end of the NHL season... Really??

On top of that it will eliminate any drama potentially caused by negotiations with him taking too long, etc.

EDIT - I quoted you too fast it seems. To the above in bold, I don't give a flying f*ck about the feelings of the fans. Let them whine over the last 10 games that won't mean a thing. Who cares. And Drama? Boeser can sign max entry level deal, and we still retain his rights for the next 2 years, there won't be drama.

- Codes1087

We would retain his rights until he turns 27

Incorrect. Feb 25 is after Sept 15 for this season.
U r referring to his next season for an ELC.
Its date of birth at start of season eg training camp not mid season.

Definitely, esp if it entices him to sign now, rather than go back to NCAA for another year.

It applies to 18-19 yr olds born before Sept 15 which Boeser is.
Gaudette is classified as a 20yr old.

- Nighthawk

Apparently the September date does not apply in this circumstance, Jets could've burned a year of Connor's contract even though his birthday was just in December and he would've been 19 for the remainder of that season. Keyword being "apparently", your logic made sense to me

The focus is all on NTC cumbersome Hansen and Burrows for TDL moves. However, little to anything is being talked about the D. The area this club has conceded, even during "the high" of playoff contention they could move.

It's been known the most value @ TDL is for D especially for Cup contenders. A team like the Pens with injuries would be more open to buying for value. Sbisa is the easiest to move with no NTC. Then, there is Tanev who has the better return potential. It may come down to what the value is on the offers who JB chooses to move. But it's a good bet one of them is traded with Vegas looming.

If we were by some miracle in a wild card spot would your opinion on him being brought in towards the end of the season change at all?

Good point.
Seeing has how he hasn't scored a goal in 9 games, perhaps a long term approach would be best.

"Jonathan Quick's injury situation has dragged on a lot longer than originally expected."

Actually he's right on schedule, he's been predicted to return early- mid march for sometime now.

From the CBA:
9.2 Age of Players. As used in this Article, "age," including "First SPC Signing Age," means a Player's age on September 15 of the calendar year in which he signs an SPC, regardless of his actual age on the date he signs such SPC

His age on Sept 15 of this calendar year is 20. So no slide

I'm not a lawyer but it doesnt specify what season applies, just says calendar year of signing the contract. That is the entirety of the clause with no supplemental notes so I dont think you can assume that it means for the following season

people understand that the other side gets a say in trades, right? #Canucks don't just call up a team and say this is how it's going down.
