I don't see how it's "awful" when it leaves us $14M to catch up with the "core budget" of one of the best teams in hockey. Don't you think that's enough room even if we have to add a #2 and a #3?

There's more cap room after the $14M to fill in the non-core, right? Chicago isn't playing with only 9 guys!

I would quibble with your numbers for Reinhart and Kane, but not to a degree that would change the overall idea that "we will be OK even after locking up our core". And if that's true - with Kane at a reasonable increase included - then I'm really hoping we can find the #2D in unprotected guys before the Exp draft.

Signing Kane will not prevent us from adding to the defense

ESPN was wrong, shocker. The last day of the season is 4/9, not 4/8. I don't know why I didn't just look at the actual schedule in the first place, I took the number at face value even though they had conflicting numbers on the page http://www.espn.com/nhl/s...14/nhl-calendar-key-dates And Google pushed me just enough by saying the 28th that it was the 28th. TDL is 3/1. I literally called the NHL.

My point is, we should probably find out how good this core is before we lock all of it up until eternity.

The Hawks have won 3 cups. They knew they could win with that core plus a piece here than there.

We don't have that luxury yet

AND still have $$$ to address the defense

The big question seems to be whether or not we can afford Kane...

And I said "Oh, ok thanks" and asked about the 40 day thing and he said the last day of the season is the 9th. I thanked him again and then I tried to hang up, but he kept me on the line and said that if it fell that the TDL would be another day like the 28th or 2nd or something that the NHL and PA could get together and make it so they agree for it to be on the first. So even in the event that the season ends on a different day than the 9th the TDL will almost assuredly be on the 1st. I think he was bored.

For example;
Lehner could bet on himself & we could decide to go with a cheaper Cal Petersen in 3 years
There's an additional 4mil
Works both ways
