These trade proposals and asks are ridiculous. Flat out ridiculous, and for once the Euge is 100% right in his comments on player evaluation. The ask Sakic is making is outright insane, to the point where Dorion had to reference it through pot shots in the media as well about other teams trying to fleece him.

In Duchesne, we are talking about a player who is essentially equivalent (slightly more valuable, arguably, but not by much) in value and production to Kyle Turris. We got him for a high end prospect and a 2nd when Arizona was desperate to move on. Paying anything more than that would be prudent, but not necessary, especially if he isn't moved by the deadline.

My final offer would be the following, if they don't like it fine, say we'll take our chances and make him an offer in free agency when he walks, up to you, Joe:

To COL: Ryan, Boro, 1st, Dahlen (who is by far the most underappreciated asset in this proposal by both sides) and Englund
To OTT: Duchesne, Tyutin

Anything more and they can gtfo of here.

They're not going to take a salary dump and a pile of crap for Duchene. They'll quite happily 'gtfo'. In a hurry. And go elsewhere.

anyone else hearing theres a trade coming?..trade rumbling out there

Nah Ottawa doesn't make trades, that's why as a Sens fan, the trade deadline is never exciting.

It's also why we'll never win a cup, our GM's aren't aggressive enough to get anything meaningful done.

What are you talking about?

Anderson, Methot, Ryan, Turris, Brassard, the pick that brought in Colin White, Condon, Phaneuf, the pick that brought in Erik Karlsson...... Not mention players we dealt away, like Heatley and Spezza.

Many trades have been made, probably more significant ones than most other teams. Have they been good trades? It's a mixed bag. But that's a totally different criticism than 'they never make trades.' They make tons of trades, which is why both our starting goalies, half our top-6 forwards, and two of our top-4 dmen are trade acquisitions

The first comment is just bizarre... Phaneuf, Brassard, Condon, and Wingels alone have all been acquired via trade in the past year (or so). They also traded up at the draft to secure Brown, and are strongly rumoured to be trying to make a deal right now in light of the injuries to their scoring wingers. Given that it's also Dorion's first year on the job, I'm not sure how much more trading you can really expect.

Second, teams win Stanley Cups when they: a) have a championship-quality core of 3-5 high-end players in place (eg. Chicago, Los Angeles, Pittsburgh), and b) their best players show up and get the job done. By and large, the cores of these teams are also drafted, not traded for (eg. Kopitar/Doughty/Quick, Kane/Toews/Keith, Crosby/Malkin/Letang). For the most part, teams of that quality use the trade deadline to address injury concerns and shore up depth.

Last year was a near-perfect example, where Pittsburgh added Hagelin, Daley, and Schultz, while San Jose added Spaling, Polak, and Reimer. Or take Chicago, where in their 3 championship seasons the only mid-season trade acquisitions to actually play in the playoffs for them were Handzus (2013), Vermette (2015), Desjardins (2015), and Boynton (2010). I'm not sure you can really credit those trades as the reason for a team winning 3 Stanley Cups in 7 years.

Well then, good. I'd rather keep the 'pile of crap' as you say than acquire him, as Duchesne's point production is pretty much the same to what Brassard has done for us this year which has been...underwhelming thus far...to say the least.

The pile of crap you reference is one slumping NHL forward, one NHL dman, a 1st and two former 2nd round picks that are at an advanced stage of development. Dahlen was one of Sweden's best forwards, if not THE best, at the WJC this year and turned quite a few heads. He is probably our third best prospect at this point.

Englund will be a decent 2nd pair D-man similar to Methot when he is fully developed. If your assessment of these guys is that they are a pile of crap, you know nothing about prospect development and any scout in the league would deservedly laugh in your face.

If they would go elsewhere in a hurry, that's fine, they will be equally disappointed at what other teams put forward and if we are really interested we'll wait til he hits UFA at a point where this team will be even more of a contender than it is now. That offer is more than what he is worth.

You realize when it's been that way for several years it's no longer considered slumping? don't try sell bobby ryan as a trade piece. hes got a massive contract. hes not very good. was only ever any good when getzlaf and perry were carrying him. he holds negative value.
