I'm not a fan of a 2nd pick for Ron frickin hainsey. I guess the team is desperate though - drummer829
Yeah, me neither, but Carolina retained 50% of Hainsey's salary, so that definitely upped the cost. |

I really cant see the Pens and Canes making deals with GMJR at the helm. I dont think they like him much anymore. - MattStrat

Yea Kristo is just a throw in to keep the # of contracts down. Hainsey was prolly cheaper if they just took him for a pick and no retention. |

Every GM around the league knows that Pittsburgh is in dire need of defense, so the price is going to go up up up.
I'm still holding on to hope that Fleury nabs the Pens a defenseman (primary) or a decent forward. But I won't hold my breath. |

A late 2nd.. is pretty meaningless. Rememeber everyone was up in arms that Schultz cost a 2nd? Lets all relax and not act like they threw away the future lol |

Holy poop Bingo was right...
A second is certainly an over payment for a guy who should provide us with a Lovejoy type roll, but hey, that's about what the Old Man payed the last time and we have two top 4 D men out 6 weeks and our defacto third best defenseman out indefinitely. We're desperate and Rutherford made a Rutherford type move to address it. No one should be surprised and all in all its not the end of the world. We do have a ton of assets now anyways. |

Do you think a 2nd round pick would have gotten Smith? |

They like him just fine. I don't get where this comes from.
Literally the only people who seem to think there's bad blood there are Penguins fans.
Also Danny Kristo and a 2nd? Lol - BINGO!
Well F me. I was totally wrong haha. |

What should we know about Hainsey? I know we kinda talked about it last week. - j.boyd919
Decently mobile, but plays pretty stationary in his own end. He's a good #4-5 D man. Start playing him 20 inutes per night and you may have issues, but he's a perfectly solid depth D man. |

If this was a few years ago, a late second would probably be by far the best draft pick we had in our arsenal for the near future |

Mike Green is absolutely a top pairing guy. Get the hell out of here lol
EDIT: Not every team has a Letang, Burns, Hedman, Keith, etc. Those guys are elite 1st pairing D. But there is not 30 of them in the league. To say Green isn't in that 2nd tier of top pairing defenseman is foolish. - j.boyd919
End of the day he's not a top pairing guy on a team that is in anyway an average NHL team. He's not a top 40 dmen. And he's way too much of a specialist to say top pairing guy. Maybe he's top pairing overall as in fringe top 60 dman. |

Sounds like Cody Franson, although add in solid outlet pass, good advanced stats, and solid on the PP. |

A 3rd plus a scrub couldn't get it done??
Id feel better if it was a 3rd but I'm not going to lose sleep over this.
Would of rather had B Smith for that price. |

I think it is fair value but Holland is an idiot and is probably holding out for a 1st based on the logic that he drafted Smith in the 1st round 10 years ago or whatever. |

CAR retained 50% on Hainsey so that probably changes the value from a 3rd to a 2nd imo. |

A 2nd is just the costs of doing business when your adding anything approaching a serviceable defenseman this time of year. Remember caps gave up a 3rd for I believe weber last year to be their 8th dman. No overpayment just what it costs. Plus a 3rd last year is probably worth a 2nd this year. This was the one necessary move we needed to make to put a cup run together. I hope this is all we do. If we get healthy we are good enough to win it all. |

You should send some of those picks to DET for some players. |
