Mike = 31
Shatts = 28.

Now that means something, but I just can't put my finger on it???

How old is too old for Dmen in the NHL, because 30 & you're (frank)ed if you are a forward!

I really cant see the Pens and Canes making deals with GMJR at the helm. I dont think they like him much anymore.

Dave Poile thinks it will be quiet. I think the fact that theres been hardly any trades in general this season, especially the past month or so, is an indicator that this week will be very quiet.

Right now I am all good with the Pens trading picks and prospects if it gets them a big improvement for a playoff run.

This past year it seems all of the Pens forward prospects have started to pan out. Sheary, Rust, Guentzel, Wilson all look like top 9 capable young players. Sprong and Simon are out there too with a lot of potential. They could trade away Sprong and their first and be fine for the next several years. And Pens need to cut ties with Pouliot, even if they can't get fair value.

- MacPatty

That makes no sense. We are likley to lose a forward to expansion. So keeping forward depth especially a guy like sprong with top 6 ability is important. Its all about cap savings. Sprongs panning out saves you 10-15 million in cap costs during his UFA years. Versus some rental guy added to a team that is already good.

Different story if we are talking Duchene, but of the rentals only shatt is worth sprong, but because our window is open for the next 8 years (murray changed a lot) I don't see the reason to ship our assets that can help us during that time for rentals.

Why would you cut ties with pouliot if you can't get fair value. I'm not taking a 3rd round pick for the kid. He can play in wbs until he's ready. Its better than giving him away.

I think most would agree with you there! Who the (frank) will pay a 1st for Green & his 6m contract?? Is anyone sure a team will go a 1st for Shatts??

I think the Pens will pay Pouliot and a 1st.

Why wouldn't a team give up a 1st (especially a team 1st in what's considered a weak draft if they are a contending team) to add a top pairing defenseman with another year on their contract the their team?

What makes giving up a 1st for a ufa that's going to walk in 3 months more appealing than a year and a half of a top pairing defenseman? I understand the expansion draft (frank)s everything up, but still... top pair defenseman don't come on the market often, a 1st at the least is very fair.

Mike Green isn't a top pairing guy. And his contract is big. Bigger issue of trading for him is next years $6 million salary than the 1st round pick. The reason you trade for a rental over term is a rental lets you take on salary you couldn't fit under the cap for a full year either thru retention of if you've been building cap all year.

I don't see how we can take Greens salalary.

I also don't think he slots well at all in Pittsburgh. Who do you pair him with. Letang-Dumo won't be broken. Schultz/Cole has chemistry. Daley-Green would be a disaster defensively.

JR said he's not concerned about the cap next year. He will fix it in the off-season. He could trade for Green and win the Cup then trade him for assets.

They like him just fine. I don't get where this comes from.

Literally the only people who seem to think there's bad blood there are Penguins fans.

Also Danny Kristo and a 2nd? Lol

Mike Green is absolutely a top pairing guy. Get the hell out of here lol

EDIT: Not every team has a Letang, Burns, Hedman, Keith, etc. Those guys are elite 1st pairing D. But there is not 30 of them in the league. To say Green isn't in that 2nd tier of top pairing defenseman is foolish.

Basically nobody.

Probably just gives the Pens space to add another contract if they choose.

Me neither. Carolina is retaining half of his ~$2.8 cap hit though. Prob another similar move coming in next week for another D
