Both were clean. Schultz got hit in the back by Buf but he was up against the glass and his head smacked off the glass. Technically it's boarding, but they never call that when a guy is so close to the boards.

It really sucks 'cause I think Schultz has been our best D this year. They really miss him already.

Yeah, that's just bad luck, nothing you can do. But rather have it happen now than during the playoffs and have it kill a Cup run, i guess that's one way to look at it.

I find it very interesting the way you guys were able to take in a couple players in Daley and Schultz who weren't highly thought of defenseman whatsoever(other than having some offensive instincts and the ability to score an occasional goal) and turn them into very good players. VERY interesting. Schultz has become(at least statistically, i haven't watched him as much as you guys obviously) one of the best defenseman in the league. For you to say he's been your best defenseman(rather than Letang) speaks volumes.

JR just said Schultz might be back on Saturday. Goes to show you how much I know.

It's strange because nobody has reported he's skating. Oh well....good for us!

Letang IS our best defensman. He's just not having a great year.

We absolutely need to add a defenseman. We need a depth guy. A guy like Franson may not be perfect but I trust him a lot more in a 3rd pairing depth role/7d than the guys we got in wbs.

He's a good passer right? From defense doesn't that negate some of the slow feet in our system. If he can move the puck to the forwards it still gets the train moving even if he isn't a guy who can personally jump into the play.

Schultz just needed coached up. Scouts always thought he had good mid-pairing talent coming out of college, but he was in edmonton. I was shocked that he was a solid guy for us last year. This year with coaching its less surprising.

Oh and Beauchemin would be a terrible pick up.

I wouldn't mind him as the 7th or 8th defensemen for depth.

Are you sure? I read it was 3.5. Also JR said he will fix the cap space after the season.

I still wouldn't want a 3.5 cap hit on our team next year unless JR thinks he can retrade him in the offseason.

When you offer opinions nearly every day during a season, you're going to "miss" on a few. More than a few actually. Even big name guys on TSN get it wrong from time to time.

Who was the guy on Sports Net that called JS the worst player in the NHL? It happens.

RW is one of the best bloggers on this site and he churns out the work religiously. For some reason Pens fans are the least appreciative.

- madmike71
I agree 100% A lot of other teams get blogs every 2-3 days. RW is putting a blog out every day if not more. If you don't like his articles or graphs just go straight to the comments section instead of acting like little female doges and putting his work down.

Except he was right as Daley has been a negative relative possession player for basically his entire career. He turned out to be a decent fit in the pens system. Don't let the team result make you believe a player is different than what he really is.
- Feds91Stammer

But the team result is all that really matters. I don't care how good a player is individually, if he doesn't fit with the team system and isn't helping the team win he's worthless. Fit within the team structure is more important than overall skillset and it's why I don't care for comments like " It isn't easy to peg a player's value when general managers around the league still place value in players who don't really help a team" because it's a very inaccurate statement when the data being used is based on individual play not fit within the team structure.

I don't think I really put his work down. I just said it reminded me of the posts about Daley and how Daley has actually worked out rather well. It was more about the absurdity of bashing players strictly on numbers without considering how they may actually fit with their new teams and new teammates. How boring would this site be if everyone who came on here agreed on everything.

Analytics cant cover every aspect of the game. They dont cover every aspect. Its a game of team work, emotions and relationships between teammates and coaches. How one player fits in and produces in one scenario could be completely different from if they were planted in a another different scenario ie Daley or Hags.

This is why you cant be 100% data/numbers. Of course some will live and die by the numbers/data, and I find these people to be the most stubborn, but theres so much more to hockey than that.

My comment wasn't directed at anyone in particular, it was something that has been on my mind for awhile. Having differing opinions is good, I just dont see a need to be malicious about it.

But the best way to develop an opinion on a player that is not already playing within said system, is to look at his individual numbers and video. You will never really know how dude is gonna play until he's there, but using data and video is the best way to analyze a player to come up with an opinion. While he was 'wrong' (really he wasn't given, Daley's numbers fell in line with career avg's) in the sense that he may not help the team, he wasn't really wrong in his evaluation for the player and the type of player he is.

Why are people still talking about the Stars as a destination for Fleury? Aren't they pretty much out of the playoff race at this point?

Same with Avs. All about sending him where he wants to go to be a starter
