In fairness, they are sticking to their guns in that they want him to be a center. There has been a million-and-one complaints on here from people (not implying you were one, I honestly have no idea) about the Islanders "ruining" players who were drafted as centers but are being used as wings.

They clearly want Barzal to be a center and they stuck to that, so he had a rough go of things finding a spot in the lineup. I was disappointed that we didn't get a full year of Barzal but I think in the long run it will be beneficial.

I think it will be for him (& the team) as well. There's still a dearth of centers on this club. I just wished they had made the decision earlier in the season to send him down instead of playing him once every other 5 g or 6 games.

they were letting them battle until when the puck came across Mayfield literally grabbed Larkin's stick to stop him from making a play. It was the right call.. they could have tacked on a roughing minor for each of them too.. especially larkin's punch in the face.
- niteislander

I'm not saying that Mayfield didn't deserve a penalty, I'm just saying, in my opinion, they should have taken both.

yea I was just saying that call sucked as Larkin came up high 3 times to hit and move him and when mayfield finally hits him back they called it. I get it ive done it but sometimes I just take them both and say you know what theres a reason he did that to you
- Upstate_isles

Upstate, I think the ultimate call on Mayfield was holding the stick and had nothing to do with the jousting and battling for position that was going on between them.
Not sure but that's what I remember.

Man I love Barzal.

34GP: 8G, 55A - 64pts

He's averaging almost 2pts/gm

Gotta find him a nice shoot-first winger down the line, that would be a deadly combo.

He's gonna be a beast on the PP too.

- eichiefs9

His name is Michael Dal Colle and he is a shoot first winger, he ripped shots in that game on tv, and thats his m.o.

In fairness, Mayfield did shove him several times, cross-checked him twice, and roughed him a bit. Larkin, for his participation in that scuffle, slashed Mayfield 3 times in the shins, gave a little punch to the face and cross-checked Mayfield once. I thought the ref was going to take both as well. He should've. It's called "battling in front of the net" for a reason. Apparently, the only thing the rules allow in front of the net now is patty-cake. Chiefs is right about that.
- Isleshockeyman

well if its patty cakes then take them both as they both hit each other multiple times. that to me is a both or no one call.

He's still got another year in the AHL to go. 10g, 27pts is nice for your rookie pro year, but it's not earning him a roster spot anytime soon.

Nah. Mayfield was cracken Larkin's skull the other night. All that got us was 2 minutes in the box and a PPG-against.

We need speedspeedspeeeeeeeeeeeeeed

Just checked it was a holding the stick penalty. So I guess they were letting the physicality go on both sides and called the holding?

He took a stupid penalty that lead to a game-tying goal.

I'm not complaining about him overall, just saying that that is what "toughness" will get you a lot of times in today's NHL.

He was protecting the front of the net on a play Larkin should've got a penalty for also. What do you want him to do leave Larkin in front of Greiss to fire at will?

yes but thats why hes there and also hes not being set up by nhl caliber players. also they want him to learn the pro game, system, and be responsible defensivly which by all reports hes done much better than ho sang. if the isles keep him and dont package him in a trade he will be a good scorer at this level. the guy you set up to just shoot

I mean he damn near took Larkin's head off a few times. I don't really care about Larkin's safety, but I was watching it and just waiting for the arm to go up. I'm not saying they have kiss and hug, but it was a little excessive.
