Comparing Marner and Laine is more realistic as rookie wingers
- jimi james

I think so. Though I wouldn't trade Marner for Laine.

It is good to see the "who is the best rookie" question finally put to rest. Last night clearly shows Laine is the best rookie in the NHL this season.

He literally saved Kadri from a beating tonight.

Can't keep up with what? His stats are completely appropriate for his role. He is fast on the forecheck and he can break up a cycle down low in the defensive end and carry to the red line, literally all Babcock wants to happen in that scenario.

Because Laine's team lost and didn't set up the game winning goal

Clearly.

The better rookie team won and had more pts.

Clearly.

Where is this false narrative of Matthews having an "extra year" of professional experience on Laine? Laine has 52 games of tier-1 pro experience and 36 of tier-2 to Matthews' 36 in tier-1...

Completely agree. Here's the thing, when it comes down to it I want players that drive play on a line, not just that can make plays.

Matthews, Marner, Nylander have all shown they can drive play on their own. I'm not convinced Laine can do that, no matter how good his shot is. He's too slow.

Just watched the game, was entertaining but some really dodgy goaltending on both sides.

Great to see Komarov score a few goals, he needed that.

Leafs were lucky on that last play that Byfuglien stopped instead of running over Matthews; could have destroyed him (and prevented the assist and goal by doing so). Hats of to Byfuglien.

What's with the Laine hate though? He's in the similar to PK Subban; a guy that is bringing some spice to the league, isn't afraid to say what he has got on his mind, and above all, has a very specific skill set which only a few others in the league have.
It's great to see a guy like Laine being so good in his first season in NHL.

False narratives and the Leafs go hand in hand. Like how much salary we retained in the Kessel deal, how much Komisarek was getting paid, how many picks we traded for Andersen, how few back to back games the Leafs have to play, how Matthews won't get any bonuses in his contract, how Kadri and Nylander are going to be traded any second, how Nylander is in Babcock's doghouse, how Leafs fans think Gardiner is a Norris candidate.

The list goes on and on.

I don't think Andersen had much chance on any of them did he?
